Jordy
June 21
Our hearts are broken. We had to let our sweet Jordy go.
Jordy had been back and forth to the vet so many times, we lost count. We were trying to get her the adrenal tumour surgery she needed, but each time her foster mom got her to the clinic, there was always a reason she couldn’t have the surgery. Mostly because her blood pressure was too high. So, each time, she was sent back to her foster home with another prescription of blood pressure pills in hopes that they would help.
The night before last, Jordy started vomiting, and seemed to be struggling for breath. Her foster mom took her to the vet where Jordy spent the day going through x-rays, ultrasounds and blood testing to see what the issue was. The vets put her on anti-nausea and pain medication to try to help. Throughout the day, Jordy continued to vomit and retch. She was crying and still struggling to breathe…but despite all the tests, the vets couldn’t see any obvious reason for her condition. Jordy stayed in the ICU of the emergency vet overnight, but by morning it was pretty clear Jordy wasn’t going to get better. She had diarrhea that the vets described as “hemorrhagic” and she had become unresponsive to any of the treatment the they were trying. After lengthy discussions with the vets and her foster mom, the heartbreaking decision was made to alleviate Jordy’s suffering.
Thank you to the vets at Beaches Animal Hospital and VEC Toronto for all your help with Jordy.
And a big hug and a thank you to Jordy’s foster mom Daria, for caring for Jordy…endless vet visits, hundreds of pee pads and all. Daria dubbed Jordy “Sophia” after the Golden Girls character. Jordy/Sophia wouldn’t have had the chance she was given if it wasn’t for Daria. She went above and beyond for that little dog, and we’ll be forever thankful.
Rest in peace Jordy. We’ll never forget your sweet smile.

Jordy came into Burlington Animal Services as a stray. She was quite a mess when she arrived. Matted, infested with fleas, dry skin, bad teeth, overgrown nails, not spayed. Wherever Jordy was before coming into BAS, she was not getting the best of care.
The shelter spayed Jordy and extracted some of her rotten teeth. When Jordy’s blood work results came back, it was discovered that she may be suffering from Cushing’s disease. Her levels rose dramatically over the following weeks, and because the shelter wasn’t equipped to deal with her increasing medical needs, they reached out to Ladybird for help.
Jordy has a vet appointment coming up so we can get a proper diagnosis, and get her on the road to feeling better.
Welcome Jordy!
May 2nd, 2018 UPDATE!
Jordy is having a lovely time in her foster home; learning the ropes and enjoying walks and snuggle time with her foster family. She’s looking, feeling and smelling much better after a professional grooming.
She’s got several vet appointments under her belt already, and she’s been a trooper through it all
Such a sweet dog!
Test results so far show that Jordy either has Cushings or an adrenal tumour. During an ultrasound yesterday, the vet found a strange and out of place mass. The vet wasn’t able to couldn’t confirm a diagnoses so they referred us to a specialist. We’ll let you know what happens after the specialist appointment. Hopefully we can get her health issues sorted out so she can start the search for her forever home!
May 11th, 2018 UPDATE!
Jordy visited the specialist vet clinic in Toronto for her ultrasound. It indeed showed that the “mystery mass” is an adrenal tumour. We had a very long discussion with the vet and Jordy’s foster mom and it was decided the best course of action is to go through with the surgery to remove the tumour, as it is likely what is causing her Cushing’s syndrome. If all goes well, Jordy’s health issues will improve and she can finally start the search for her forever home!
We’ll keep you updated on Jordy’s surgery when we have a date set.
Because it required a specialized vet, yesterday’s appointment was very expensive. And Jordy’s tumour removal surgery will likely be one of the most expensive surgeries we’ve had to cover. If you have been thinking of donating to Ladybird, now is the time! We took Jordy in knowing she had health issues, but there is never a way to accurately predict how much treatment will cost. This one will be a zinger!
