Zelda
* Zelda found her forever home with lovely people! *
Zelda was found pregnant and dumped in a conservation area. She was brought to Hamilton Animal Services, and on March 30th, she gave birth to three healthy babies! She was very frightened at the shelter, so a very kind staff member took her home temporarily to alleviate her stress and so she could look after her babies in peace. Shortly after, an orphaned kitten of similar age to Zelda’s kittens showed up at HAS. The staff member introduced this new kitten to Zelda, and she took the baby in like one of her own! So sweet!
To save Zelda the stress of going back to the shelter, the HAS staff member was kind enough to deliver Zelda and her little ones to a Ladybird foster home and the family has done wonderfully there.
Zelda is shy, but she constantly purrs when given attention. She has come out of her shell quite a lot since coming into our care, thanks to lots of love from her foster family. Zelda raised her babies like a champ. She’s now been spayed and is ready to find her forever home!
Here’s a note from Zelda’s foster mom:
“Zelda is a teeny tiny lady who loves affection! We don’t know what her short life held before she was found but I can’t imagine it was an easy one. She is missing a few teeth, which the vet thinks may have been caused by a trauma. It doesn’t affect her eating or appetite at all. She is shy with new people and she is easily spooked by commotion and loud noises.
When she first came to me she was very nervous, but luckily she’s a sucker for treats, so I used those to gain her trust and within a few days she was accepting pets and love. Now she loves attention! She still approaches slowly, but as soon as she sniffs to make sure it’s me she’s rubbing herself all over me or any object close enough, rolling onto her back, and pulling herself along the floor on her side just ecstatic for love. She loves having the back of her neck and cheeks scratched and will freeze and lean into my hand for minutes!
She loves scratching posts, cat nip, and wand toys. She is young and her age really comes out when she plays! When she’s really happy she will run around the room meowing and chirruping with excitement!
She is very petite at only 6 pounds and still needs to put on a little more weight.
Zelda had 3 babies of her own and took in an orphan as well and she was a very loving and protective mama. She has one baby left and although he is over 3 months and getting big, she still keeps a very close eye on him and bathes him like a baby.
Now it’s her turn to find a family who will love her and give her the security she provided to her babies. Zelda is always on high alert protecting her babies and it’s time for her to relax and enjoy being the young playful kitty she should be.
Zelda is looking for a quiet home. She would prefer adults only or older kids as she is easily spooked when there is commotion. She needs an owner who understands that she may be very shy at a first meet and may take a few days to start feeling comfortable in her new home. She may stick to one room or area of the house for an extended period of time before she’s ready to venture further.
Zelda is friendly with other cats and would be fine with another cat in the home. She is very nervous around dogs so she would prefer a dog free home or a very quiet dog who will give her her space.
Zelda does not like being picked up and panics if I try. This may improve with time as she becomes more comfortable with her new family. She does not like the crate and she is very scared at the vet. But even when Zelda is at her most terrified, I have never seen her lash out. She has never scratched or bitten anyone. If she’s startled she will open her mouth as though she’s hissing, but no sound comes out. She’s a very unique and sweet girl!
So far Zelda does better with one on one than with multiple people. If I enter the room with a stranger she hides. But if the stranger goes in on their own she will sometimes come out and ask for pets and even roll on her back and show them her belly!
Zelda is a wonderful girl who had a hard start to life that has caused some trust issues with people. But she is very sweet and loves affection and she wants to trust so badly. Zelda is going to need more patience and love than your average cat, but I know once she realizes she’s found her home and her family she is going to be a wonderful girl and she will make it all worth it!”
Please adopt Zelda!
Want to help Zelda and her kittens? Donations of Royal Canin brand “Mother and Babycat” dry and canned food would be very much appreciated. When the kittens are old enough to start eating on their own, we will switch the family to the basic kitten formula shown below.
We will also need non-clumping litter for when the kittens are ready to be litter trained.
