Ladybird’s ultimate goal is to have a property where we can house more cats, dogs and small animals, and where we can start rescuing farm animals. Before attaining that goal, we are visiting local sanctuaries to gather as much knowledge as we can and to learn from others who are already doing what we are so looking forward to! Today, Ladybird founders Lisa, Janine and Melissa, and our awesome board member, Amy, visited Story Book Farm Primate Sanctuary. This is the sanctuary where Darwin the “Ikea Monkey” is now residing. We caught a brief glimpse of Darwin before he retreated to his indoor enclosure. He’s very cute! As are all the other primate residents at Story Book. We are so thankful that Story Book exists so that these beautiful animals can be properly cared for and loved.
Though we likely won’t be rescuing primates, we had much to learn from the lovely folks at Story Book, especially Daina, the sanctuary owner/director. Back in 2014, Daina spearheaded the goal of raising $800,000 to save the sanctuary when its original owners were divorcing and wanted to close the sanctuary. Daina, her board members and volunteers raised and surpassed that goal, which is an incredible achievement.
Check out Story Book’s website, and visit on one of their open house days. You won’t be disappointed!
