Kansas
* July 17/18 – We’re very sorry to report that Kansas has passed away. When he arrived into our care, Kansas was in the worst condition of the group as far as their respiratory issues. Despite vet care and several medications, poor Kansas just couldn’t fight off his illness and he passed peacefully during the night. Our hearts go out to his foster family.
Rest well Kansas. We’re glad you were surrounded by love in your last days…
Boston, Chicago and Kansas came to us all the way from a shelter in Quebec. Big thank you to all the volunteers from Freedom Drivers – Animal Rescue Transport for getting the rats to us from so far away!
From what we have learned, Boston, Chicago, Kansas were surrendered by their owner, after they had been used for quite some time as breeders for snake food. We’re happy we can now give them the relaxed retirement life they so deserve!
At their vet visit, we got a bit of upsetting news about our new arrivals. We knew they weren’t the healthiest rats when they arrived, but Boston, Chicago, Kansas are suffering various stages of a serious upper respiratory infection, and possibly pneumonia. Our vets have started them on medication, but we can only hope for the best at this point. We’re particularly worried about Kansas. All three are still active and eating, but you can see the laboured breathing in the video below.
We’re gonna do our best to get these guys healthy. They deserve to live out their new lives in health and comfort!
Please send your love and well wishes, and we’ll keep you posted on how they’re doing.
