Nazareth
* Nazareth and Berlin found their forever home with their foster home! Yay! *
Nazareth and Berlin came to us all the way from a shelter in Quebec. Big thank you to all the volunteers from Freedom Drivers – Animal Rescue Transport for getting the rats to us from so far away!
From what we have learned, Nazareth and Berlin were surrendered by their owner, after they had been used as breeders for snake food. We’re happy we can now give them the relaxed retirement life they so deserve!
At their vet visit, we got a bit of upsetting news about our new arrivals. We knew they weren’t the healthiest rats when they arrived, but Berlin and Nazareth are suffering various stages of a serious upper respiratory infection, and possibly pneumonia. Our vets started them on medication, and we could only hope for the best. They are both still active and eating, but you can see their laboured breathing in the video below.
Their foster family did a great job getting Berlin and Nazareth through their illness, and they received a clean bill of health at their last vet visit! Yay! These sweet ratties are now ready to find their forever home!
We are asking that they be adopted as a pair.
Here’s a note from their foster family:
“Berlin & Nazareth are the friendliest, most outgoing rats that I have ever had the pleasure of fostering! They LOVE to bomb around my bedroom and explore, they’re always checking me out, and they are comfortable with being handled (although they would rather run around). As I type this, Nazareth is sniffing my phone, and Berlin is rustling my blankets. They don’t like to chew on things, and I trust them in my bedroom, because they just like to sniff and run around. They’re used to getting out once-twice/day now and they really look forward to their time out of their cage, so they would make great pets for someone who is willing to give them the time and attention that they deserve.”
Please adopt Berlin and Nazareth!
Ladybird recommends Critter Nation cages. They are hands down the most spacious, and best quality enclosure for small animals on the market. They come in single and double sizes, and can be modified and customized to create enrichment and provide comfort. Their design and solid manufacturing almost entirely eliminates the possibility of accidental escape. Critter Nation cages are available (or can be ordered) at most local pet supply stores.
Can’t adopt but want to help?
Monetary donations are always needed, but if you’d like to donate something specifically for the rats in our care, donations of rat food, small pet blankets (used for cage lining), rat hammocks and fleece liners for Critter Nation cages are very much appreciated!
