Luna
* Luna found her forever home with a lovely family! Yay! *
Luna, Lily and four other rabbits were abandoned in a box in a rural area of Stoney Creek. Thankfully, someone came across the box and the rabbits were brought to Hamilton Animal Services.
Luna and Lily are friendly bunnies, and they were very bonded to each other when they arrived.
We had Luna and Lily spayed, and they healed perfectly from their surgeries.
A few weeks after their surgeries, Luna and Lily had a serious and sudden fight, that escalated to the point that they had to be separated. After some “time out” days, their foster mom tried to slowly re-bond them, but neither was interested, and the fighting continued. They were kept in separate pens, but were close enough that they could still see each other.
On December 14th, sweet Lily passed away very unexpectedly. She was happy and hopping one minute, and gone the next. Our vets think it was likely sudden heart failure. Our hearts go out to her foster mom, and to Lily’s sister Luna, who will be missing her sibling, even though they were feuding at the time.
Luna is now looking for a forever home on her own. She is very friendly towards humans and the large dog in her foster home. Foster mom spoils her with a daily treat of fruit and veggies. Luna would love a forever home where she can have a large living space, or be a free range bunny.
We’re not sure if she would again one day want the company of another rabbit, but best match would be a neutered male rabbit.
Here’s a note from Luna’s foster mom:
“I have had the complete pleasure of fostering Miss Luna since November. This December, her bonded sister Lily, passed away suddenly, but Miss Luna’s mood bounced back surprisingly quickly and she recovered from her loss.
She is quite friendly with a big side of sassy. She loves roaming the house, exploring every nook and cranny. She loves her daily zoomies while doing a Binky trick in the air.
Loves taking naps in the most random and uncomfortable places. Enjoys large meals with a variety of greens, and certainly does not frighten easily unless it’s the vacuum.
Luna enjoys a snuggle as long as it’s on her terms, and does not like being held.
This bean is also 100% litter trained with no accidents.
She is a dream come true in the bunny department and will definitely give you a daily smile or laugh.”
Our fostered rabbits are housed in x-pens or similar enclosures so they have lots of room to move around when they aren’t out for exercise. Commercially made pet store rabbit cages are far too small to allow rabbits to stretch out and move around with ease.
Here are some photo examples and great websites outlining alternative rabbit housing using x pens and similar enclosures.
