Jasmine
* Jasmine was adopted by her foster home! Yay! *
We had a plan to rescue Jasmine from Hamilton Animal Services on November 21st. We had her vet visit and foster home all lined up, and we were excited to spring this wee baby bunny from the shelter.
But today, we received word from the shelter that Jasmine wasn’t feeling well. Unfortunately, by the time a rabbit shows signs of illness, it might already be too late. Because they are prey animals, they will do their best to hide any kind of injury or sickness for as long as possible so they don’t become a predator’s dinner faster than a healthy rabbit would. So the fact that Jasmine was sitting low and still, and was somewhat limp when handled was a serious cause for concern.
Thankfully, kind HAS staff members were able to volunteer their time to get Jasmine to our rabbit vet (Dr. Stubbs at Spencer Creek Animal Hospital) very quickly, and this action likely saved her life.
During the exam, Dr. Stubbs found that Jasmine was extremely dehydrated, and her intestines were full of unformed feces that were not passing through her system. Jasmine was started on an IV and medication, and we’re hoping for the best. Dr. Stubbs gave Jasmine a 50% chance of survival. So now, we wait.
All our fingers and toes are crossed for this sweet bunny. She needs all the well wishes and love she can get.
Hang in there Jasmine. You have a wonderful life ahead of you if you can fight your way through this!
UPDATE – November 21/18
Wee Jasmine made it through the night, but she’s still not out of the woods yet. Dr. Stubbs says Jasmine is a little better but is now showing signs of neurological issues. She is eating and pooping, which is fantastic because Dr. Stubbs wasn’t sure if the poop that had accumulated would pass through. They will monitor and medicate her again tonight, and give us another update in the morning.
Keep fighting Jasmine! We’re all cheering for you!
UPDATE – November 22/18
Jasmine is feeling better! Looks like she’s through the worst of it, thank goodness. She’s eating and pooping normally, and the neurological issues seem to be gone!
Spencer Creek Animal Hospital will hang onto Jasmine for one more day, just to be sure everything is okay, and then she’ll be transferred to her foster home.
Thank you for all your healing thoughts and well wishes. And big thanks to Dr. Stubbs for giving Jasmine the expert care she needed.
Yay Jasmine!
