Cali
* Cali has been adopted by the most wonderful family! Yay! *
When her owner was incarcerated, Cali ended up at Hamilton Animal Services. After being released, Cali’s owner was aware that Cali was at HAS, but despite saying they were coming to get her, and being given a month to do so, they never showed up.
We were happy to get Cali out of the shelter and took her straight to the vet for a check-up. Cali had an issue called “cherry eye” which is a prolapse of the third eyelid. She also needed to be spayed, and have her teeth cleaned.
Cali did great for surgery… but because the cherry eye repair and dental extractions took several hours, she couldn’t be spayed because it would have been dangerous to keep her under anesthetic for any longer than they did. Two out of three ain’t bad though! After a couple of weeks, Cali was able to have her spay surgery, and she did great for that one too.
Thank you to Stone Church Animal Clinic for taking such great care of Cali during both operations.
Cali’s fantastic foster mom helped her heal up in no time, and now Cali is ready to find her forever home!
Here’s a report from Cali’s foster mom:
“Cali is a super friendly sweet girl who loves everyone. Her favourite thing is to sit in your lap for cuddles. If there’s an empty lap Cali will fill it.
She is very respectful with both dogs and cats. Cali greets you with sheer joy and excitement bouncing up and down. Did I say she loves cuddles? After playtime and exercise Cali will curl up on the couch with you to watch TV.
Cali is a power walker and will need continued leash work. It is obvious that Cali has not had boundaries in the past but she has improved greatly, is a good listener and is very smart. She will need someone who can be a quiet leader who is firm but gentle. She has learned sit, quiet and off and has learned to dance. She gently takes treats from your hand. We are working on her jumping up to lick your face and she will need consistent reminders and supervision around small children so she doesn’t knock them over.
Cali is crate trained and 97% house trained now. She loves natural chew bones, Yak cheese bones and helping to cook in the kitchen.
Cali has a very unusual bark, or more like 2 barks at the same time. She has a very deep big dog bark and combines it with a high pitched scratchy bark. So it sounds like 2 dogs are barking. It’s funny, quirky and cute, but not to worry she knows the quiet command.
Oh and did I mention Cali is a very loving cuddle monster.”
Thank you Willow Bean Photography for the fantastic photos of Cali, and thank you Sharples Greenhouses Garden Gallery for hosting the photoshoot!
