You’ve heard us talk about how rabbits purchased at Easter time are usually abandoned shortly after the novelty wears off. Well, here we are a few months after Easter, and this is the sad reality of why we try to spread the message of not purchasing rabbits as Easter gifts.
The rabbits pictured here are waiting for rescue at Hamilton Animal Services, Toronto Animal Services, and in high-volume shelters in Quebec. We’ve been asked by all of these shelters to help with the overwhelming number of rabbits they have currently.
These are just a few of the hundreds of stray/abandoned/surrendered rabbits in shelters all over Southern Ontario and beyond right now. It really sucks that this happens year after year, but we’re gonna keep spreading the message, and hopefully you will too…
What can you do to help right now, you ask? Become a rabbit foster home! We need your help to get these bunnies out of the shelters and into safety.
When you sign up to be a Ladybird foster home, we provide all food, litter, toys, enclosure and vet care. You just provide the love and time it takes for these lovely bunnies to find their forever homes.
Contrary to popular belief, rabbits are not the simplest animal to care for, hence why they are so easily abandoned. But with a bit of education, patience and proper care, rabbits make wonderful foster, and forever pets!
If you are in the Hamilton (Ontario) and surrounding areas, please fill out the foster application to become a rabbit foster home, so we can rescue some of these sweet souls who so desperately need our help right now.
