Jelly Bean
Snickers and Jelly Bean showed up to Hamilton Animal services together as strays and no owner came forward for them.
Jelly Bean was severely matted. So much so, her normally curled tail was stuck out straight because of the tangled and matted fur. To top it off, she was covered in tumours. Some larger than golf ball size. This poor little dog had been severely neglected.
Our vets sent out samples of the tumours so we could sort out next steps for her. We were devastated when we received the news the next day that the tumours were lymphoma, and that Jelly Bean would likely only live for a couple of weeks. We knew we had to give Jelly Bean the best life possible for whatever time she had left.
First thing on the list was a bath and groom to get all those awful matts and stink off of her. She was so happy to have that horrible fur gone. The first night after being groomed, she slept on her back with her legs all up in the air. She slept right through the night that way in her soft dog bed. Surely a sign that she was finally comfortable.
Over the next few days she enjoyed her time with Snickers and the other dogs in her foster home. She got lots of love and spoiling from her foster mom. She seemed happy and content.
The morning of her seventh day with us, Jelly Bean took a turn for the worse. She didn’t want her breakfast and she could hardly keep her eyes open. Foster mom got her to the vet right away, but by the time they arrived, Jelly Bean was unable to even stand up on her own. Jelly was already past the point of medical intervention, and the painful decision was made to let her go.
Our hearts go out to Jelly’s foster mom, and to her “brother” Snickers, who will certainly be missing her presence.
Rest in peace little Jelly Bean. We’re so sorry you were left in the terrible condition you were, but we’re happy we were able to give you a week of love and comfort. We’ll never forget your sweet face…
