Honey
* Honey found her forever home with wonderful people! Yippee!! *
Honey (and several other dogs) were surrendered to Hamilton Animal Services when their owner could no longer look after them. Honey gave birth on June 2nd at HAS. Thankfully we found a foster home for the wee family, and we rescued them from HAS a week later. Honey and her foster family did a fantastic job raising the puppies, Rosebud, Clover, Buttercup, Pansy and Poppy, and they’ve all since been adopted. Now it’s Honey’s turn!
Honey is a sweet and gentle girl. As you can see in the photos, she has a deformed front leg, but it doesn’t slow her down at all.
Honey has some challenges that will require her forever home to be a special place. A secure and fully fenced yard is a must, because despite her disability, Honey is an expert at jumping fences, and finding escape routes. Honey must be kept on the strict hypoallergenic diet she is currently on. She becomes very ill if other food or treats are given to her.
Honey is friendly with the dogs and cats in her foster home, but can be leash aggressive with other dogs outside of the home. A home with no small children would be best for her, and Honey’s new people should be home a lot of the time, as she has serious separation anxiety. Honey has already started working with Holly from True Instincts Dog Training, and we are offering two complimentary, in-home training sessions with Holly to help Honey with the transition into her forever home.
Here’s a note from Honey’s foster family:
” Sweet Honey is ready to find her forever home.
She is a young (about 2 1/2 years old), gentle and playful girl. She loves to hang out with her people and the other dogs and cats in her foster home. Honey will need a little time to adjust to her new home and she is not comfortable being left alone. She is a playful girls who loves to play tug of war, chew toys, go for walks and short runs. Honey loves to be outside in the yard and would happily be outside under a shady tree for hours. Honey really suits her name. She became a mama at animal control and has met that challenge beautifully. She was loving and patient with her babies and they have all thrived.
In terms of her personality, she is friendly and not fearful of strangers. She does very well with adults. She may become overwhelmed in a busy outdoor environment. She loves the other dogs and cats in the foster household but would need time to adjust to any new pets in her life. A person can put a hand in her dish while she is eating and she accepts it without a murmur. Honey loves to be around people and her familiar pets and is happy to just be. She loves walks runs like the wind and leaps like a gazelle despite her mild handicap of walking on 3 ½ legs due to a mild birth defect.
She is a warm, sweet, loving and very beautiful girl. Gorgeous colours and almond eyes. As a shepherd and husky cross, she has many of the features of both of these dogs, she is talkative, smart, outgoing and a little mischievous and funny when she is feeling safe and confident. She has received some training for on leash walking and being in busy environments and is responding well to the strategies.
Now she is a healthy and beautiful girl. She continues to require a hypoallergenic restricted diet, and is doing very well with this. Although friendly to humans, Honey does have anxiety when on her leash and can become anxious when she meets other dogs when on a leash. She will need continued training in this area.
This wonderful girl would do best in a home in which her person or persons work from home or homebodies. She loves and thrives in a quiet environment. She does best when she is with her person. She would do best if there is a yard with good fencing in which she can hangout or run about in safety.
This beautiful girl wants to please and to be loved. She deserves to be someone’s one and only beloved friend.”
