Suzie
* Suzie found her forever home with wonderful people! *
Suzie came into Hamilton Animal Services as a stray, and despite being at the shelter for more than a month, no owner came forward to claim her.
She’s a sweet and loving girl, and would have been a good candidate for HAS’ adoption program, except that she tested positive for heartworm. As the shelter doesn’t have the resources to house and treat a heartworm positive dog, they reached out to us for help.
Thankfully we had an open foster home to take Suzie in, and she has done great there. Suzie quickly made friends with the other dogs in her foster home (one of whom is Ladybird adoption alumni Mary Jane!), and she has a tail wag and happy hello for all the humans she meets. Suzie had to have an extended stay at her foster home to complete her heartworm treatment, and so she could have the dental surgery she very much needed.
As far as we know, Suzie isn’t spayed, but because of her advanced age, and that the dental surgery and a spay surgery couldn’t be done at the same time, our vets thought it best not to put Suzie through another surgery to have her spayed. Our vets thought since she hasn’t gone into heat for the eight months she’s been with us, and likely won’t again, that it was not a necessary surgery to put her through. We weighed out what she needed most, and her teeth definitely took precedence.
During her time with us, Suzie’s foster mom discovered that Suzie loves to play fetch, and swim! This sweet old girl sure knows how to enjoy life to the max…
Now that the surgery and heartworm treatment are done, Suzie is finally ready to find her forever home!
Here’s a note from Suzie’s foster mom:
“Suzie is sweet and loving. If you let her, she will lay her head on your lap and stay there forever. She loves people, including children, and other dogs. I’ve never tried her with a cat but she doesn’t attempt to chase them, or other animals, when we encounter them on our walks or in the yard.
Suzie loves to walk and is excellent on a leash. She also loves to swim and chase a ball. Our girl is overweight but, now that she’s been cleared by the vet to exercise again, we have been working on that.
Suzie must take a monthly heartworm prevention chewable but, otherwise, is healthy and happy. She wants and deserves someone to love her completely.”
Please adopt Suzie!
