Sophie
* Sophie found her forever home with wonderful people! Yay! *
Sophie came into Hamilton Animal Services as a stray. Sophie’s owners were contacted through her microchip, but when the owners were told Sophie was at the shelter, they told shelter staff they wouldn’t be coming to get her.
When she first arrived at the shelter, Sophie was drinking an excessive amount of water and urinating frequently. Urine and blood tests were run, but no issues could be found. During her time at Animal Services (almost two months) Sophie’s excessive water intake subsided and she was thankfully back to normal.
We got Sophie out of the shelter and took her to see the fantastic folks at Glanbrook Veterinary Services. There, some more comprehensive blood and urine tests were done, which all came back great! Sophie has some old dog lumps and bumps, a few of which were aspirated and sent out for testing. They all came back negative for cancer. Yay!
As they’re not detrimental to her health, and they’re not causing her any discomfort, the vets thought it best not to remove any of the lumps at this time.
Sophie is a happy and active girl. Much more spry than most 10 year old dogs! She loves food. All kinds of food. And treats! They’re her favourite. She’ll sit very nicely without being told if you have one nearby!
Sophie is now ready to find her forever home!
Here’s a note from the folks at Gonzo’s Guest House, where Sophie has been having fun since her rescue:
“Sophie is doing really well. She is amazing with humans and is usually really good with other dogs! There have been a few incidents where she “snapped” at a couple dogs but nothing serious. She is not good with cats, we think it’s just the hound in her. She doesn’t bark as much as your typical hound but she is definitely vocal when she wants to come out and play. We do believe Sophie would do best in a situation where she is the only pet, as she is not always great with dogs she doesn’t know. She is very food motivated and she is able to hold her pee and poo all night. She seems to understand basic commands but on going training would be great for her. All in all she is a great dog!”
