Gemini
* Gemini found her forever home with a wonderful person! Yippee! *
Gemini was one of several animals brought to Hamilton Animal Services due to an eviction/hoarding situation. HAS were given no history (medical or otherwise) for Gemini, so we knew nothing at all about her.
Gemini did great in her foster home. We got her the dental surgery she needed, and she was spayed during a second surgery. When she recovered from both surgeries, she was adopted. Unfortunately, a year later, Gemini has been returned to our care. Her adopter told us that Gemini is terrified of men, and they felt she would do better in a home where there weren’t any.
Here’s a note from Gemini’s original foster home:
“Ms. Gemini is true to her name as she bears an uncanny resemblance to the astrological sign for which she is named. Like the twins in Gemini, this kitty has two very distinct personalities.
On the one hand, she is the sweetest kitty you can imagine. She has a simple life, she sleeps a lot and wants nothing more than to be touching some part of her human’s body while she naps. She snuggles next to me when I’m watching tv and lays her chin on my arm, just to remind me that she is ready for pets any time I am. She has a favourite furry catnip mouse she bats around and she runs through her favourite nylon cat tunnel, which doubles as her night-time sleeping spot. She is intensely curious – follows me around, tries to open kitchen cupboard doors and is always up for a look into the fridge.
On the other hand, Ms. Gemini is a bossy babe who has no hesitation in letting me know when she is displeased. Usually, our differences revolve around food. She is highly food motivated and is very vocal when she thinks it’s dinner time (annoyingly, she usually gets the timing exactly right).
Additionally, she becomes irritated when I don’t pay enough attention to her demands for affection. She is very insistent and when she is in the mood for snuggles, she pushes her way onto my lap. She is relentless! A couple of times, when I’ve told her no and tried to gently push her away, she has tried to bite me. She has never broken skin but she clearly has a temper.
She also has the weirdest habit when she is in a sucky mood. She loves making biscuits with a couple of my softest blankets and, as she is kneading, she is biting the blanket, meowing and trying to pull it off the couch. I’ve never seen a cat do this and it is quite funny to watch except when said blanket is draped over me because she has bitten my leg a few times during these encounters. Again, she has never broken skin but it was alarming. Because of these occasional temper tantrums, I wouldn’t house her with young children.
All in all, Ms. Gemini is a wonderfully quirky kitty. She is a beautiful girl who loves to be brushed and with a patient, understanding human around, she would be a loving companion.”
Gemini was originally rescued with another cat named Gabby. You can read Gabby’s story here.
