Finneas
* Billie and Finneas found their forever home with a lovely family! Yippee! *
Finneas and Billie were purchased from a pet store, but it was discovered not too long afterward that a family member was severely allergic, so their owners surrendered the pigs to Hamilton Animal Services. The pet store told the owners that the guinea pigs were both males, but when HAS staff did an exam, it was discovered that they are male and female. This frequent misgendering of animals is yet another reason we always say “Don’t shop. Adopt!”
We were able to take in Finneas and Billie and place them into a foster home. We had Finneas neutered shortly after they arrived, and we crossed our fingers that little Billie was not already pregnant. Unfortunately, by the beginning of April, it was obvious that she was. Billie got HUGE (see video below) and on the evening of April 22nd, she gave birth to four babies. One baby was born with physical deformities, and though we were hopeful he would be okay, he sadly passed away when he was just under a week old.
Billie did a great job raising the remaining babies, and now that they’re weened and can be on their own, she and Finneas have been reunited! (Finneas has been neutered). Now they’re ready to find their forever home together!
Finneas and Billie are currently living in two Midwest Guinea Pig Habitats. This gives them enough room to be comfortable, and to get some space away from each other when they need it. We also recommend C & C cages that you can make yourself. They’re much cheaper than pet store cages and they provide a lot more room, which guinea pigs definitely need.
Here’s a note from their foster family:
“Finneas and Billie are nice pigs. They’re pretty typical in that they aren’t thrilled about being picked up or handled too much, but when they’re relaxed they do enjoy being petted while they have all four feet on the ground. Billie is much more accepting of affection from humans than Finneas, but they both tolerate the forced love. 🙂
They both go crazy for their daily fruit and veggie snacks, and they like to barrel through their piles of timothy hay. Finneas can often be found running laps and popcorning around their enclosure, and Billie will join in the fun by doing a lap or two. Floor time is their favourite time. They’d do well in a home where their family can provide them daily floor time, and give them lots of places to explore and interesting things to do. Cardboard boxes and tunnels are their favourite. They’re really fun pigs who deserve a great home.”

Guinea pigs need much more room than the typical pet store guinea pig cages offer. Here are some websites that have great examples of the type of cages pigs can live happily in, so that they have lots of room to move around and explore:
