Oreo
* Oreo found his forever home with a wonderful person! Yippee! *
Oreo was surrendered to Hamilton Animal Services when his owner was admitted to long term care. This little dog had been very well looked after by his owners, but sadly, they were no longer able to care for him.
Oreo is a lovely little guy. He has a happy hello for everyone he meets! His eye was removed a few years ago due to glaucoma, but he doesn’t let that slow him down. At his vet visit, Oreo’s blood work showed no issues, which is great for a dog his age. Oreo was put on medication for an ear infection. He was also started on special food to help with the chronic ear infections, and it has worked well. Oreo should be kept on this food long term.
Oreo is now ready to find his forever home! An adult home would be best for him.
Here’s a note from Oreo’s foster home:
“Oreo is a spunky 12-year-old shih tzu with loads of personality. Most people are shocked to discover he’s a senior because he’s so peppy, but the number of hours he naps, his preference for short strolls over long walks, and his low tolerance for shenanigans and tomfoolery are a true reflection of his elder-dog status. Oreo thinks a stranger is just a friend he hasn’t met yet, and he gets full-body wiggles when given the opportunity to charm someone new. With his permanent wink and ridiculous underbite, he is undeniably cute, which makes it easy to forgive him when his sassy side makes an appearance. Oreo currently lives with another dog and two house rabbits, and he is good with all of them. He seems to especially like larger male dogs and will flirt and initiate play with them for ages! Oreo could also happily live as an only dog. He is in excellent health but prone to ear infections. This lifelong issue is currently being managed by maintaining good ear hygiene and adhering to a strict hypoallergenic diet. Since he needs to take frequent comfort breaks and sometimes sings the song of his people when left alone, his ideal retirement home would be an adult household, perhaps with someone who works remotely – he’s very quiet and respectful when he has human company. If you would enjoy waking up to the hilarious snorts and sneezes that only an excited shih tzu can produce in the morning, Oreo just might be the compact companion of your dreams!”
