Roger
* Roger found his forever home with wonderful people and two other dogs to be friends with! Congrats Roger! *
Roger came into Hamilton Animal Services as a stray and was not claimed by his owner. The shelter estimated Roger to be approximately twelve years old. Roger arrived at HAS with cloudy eyes, overgrown nails, infected ears, infected skin, and patchy fur. Although he arrived in bad shape, he was a good boy while he received medical treatment from shelter staff. We got Roger out of the shelter and into the warmth and safety of a foster home. We had Roger neutered (which he very much needed!) and he had several vet visits afterward to treat skin and poop issues. He finally received the all-clear from the vet, and he’s now ready to find his forever home! Roger would do best in a home with no small children. He’s great with other dogs, but at this time, we do not know how he would be with cats or other small animals.
Here’s a note from Roger’s foster mom:
“Roger is the sweetest, most perfect senior dog with so much love to give. Everyone who meets him becomes immediately besotted by his droopy puppy dog eyes and his adorably compact body (he’s only 20 lb). Roger loves naps, giving a paw, kisses (giving and receiving), chewing toys, playing fetch (it’s mostly a game of tug, to be honest), and flopping over to have his belly rubbed (making him a bit of a tripping hazard, especially in the kitchen). He is a world-class snuggler! When Roger starts feeling silly, his inner raccoon comes out and he emits an astonishing array of grunts, squeals, gurgles, and growls to express himself, which is hilarious. Roger is a true water dog – he enjoys a nice swim when the weather permits and is also happy to splash around in the bath. When Roger came into Ladybird’s care, his skin and ears were infected and he was incredibly itchy, but a regimen of medicated baths, topical ointments, ear drops, and a prescription diet have cleared up all of those issues. Roger has spots of alopecia and remains on a skin support diet, is bathed every couple of weeks, and has his ears cleaned every few days to keep any nasties at bay. He currently takes two medications daily to help manage his arthritis, and he takes one medication and a fibre supplement to help keep him regular – all of which he takes quite happily (he has lovely manners). Roger is so friendly, and he is an excellent second (or third!) dog, but he would probably be just as happy to be the centre of attention in his forever home. Due to his hind leg weakness, Roger needs support using stairs and benefits from the traction provided by a carpeted living space since he slips on hard surfaces. Life with Roger is absolutely delightful, and he will continue to bring so much joy to whoever is lucky enough to adopt him! ”
