Mariana
* Mariana has been adopted by wonderful people! Woo hoo! *
In 2022, Mariana was surrendered to Hamilton Animal Services when her owner was hospitalized long-term. Poor Mariana was very confused about where she found herself, and she didn’t want to eat or socialize with anyone. Shelter staff helped her to come around a little bit before we were able to take her in. This sweet girl continued to be shy in her foster home, but she would eventually come out of hiding for pets and ear scritches from her foster family. Turns out she’s a sweet kitty when she’s comfortable with her surroundings.
We got her the dental surgery she needed, and Mariana was adopted after a few months in our care.
Unfortunately, in 2024, Mariana’s adopter ended up hospitalized long-term, and Mariana had to be returned to us. We’re so sad for Mariana that she has to go through this again, but thankful she didn’t have to go to a shelter this time.
Poor Mariana has been through a lot, but she’s still got her sweet nature after everything happening to her. She is doing a lot of hiding under the bed at her foster home, but she will venture out for attention, and to eat and use the litter. Her foster mom discovered that Mariana loves to be brushed, and will purr her head off during brush time.
She received a clean bill of health at the vet, though she does need to lose some weight. She was started on a weight loss food and we’re hopeful it will help her shed some pounds.
Mariana would love a quiet forever home where there are no small children or other pets. She needs a stable home where she can feel safe and loved by humans who will be patient with her. It will take some time for her to come out of her shell after yet another massive change in her life. Gaining her trust will be worth every minute for the love she will give in return.

“It has been about 2 1/2 months since we adopted Mariana, so I thought I would send a little update. 😊
She’s the sweetest girl ever. Her favourite spot to be is under the bed, but she has been coming out more and more. My partner and I hang out a lot in one of the other rooms upstairs and Mariana will come into the room, “yell” at us and then go back to the bedroom, where she is waiting for us.
She loves getting pets and scritches on her head. She also loves jumping up on the bed at night for snuggles. She particularly likes to find your hand to bump with her head, so that she can get her deserved scritches.
Mariana has definitely filled a hole in my heart. I could not have asked for a sweeter cat to have adopted, and I’m so glad I was able to connect with her through Ladybird!”
