Treble
* Alto and Treble found their forever home together with a lovely person! Woo hoo! *
We rescued Treble, Alto, Melody and Harmony from a Quebec shelter where they arrived as “strays.” Along with these four, there were quite a number of other rats in the group. Seems like another case of an owner dumping their pets, which is happening far too frequently as of late.
Shelter staff weren’t able to determine family units because of the numbers, so the rats were just placed in cages as they were caught, and they did their best to separate males from females. When a foster home opened up, we were happy to get these four out of the shelter. Big thank you to Freedom Drivers Transport volunteers for getting the rats to us safely.
We were told we would be receiving two boys and two girls, but when they arrived, it was discovered that Alto was the only male. We had Alto neutered so he could stay with his “sister” and he did great for the surgery. Now that he’s healed, Alto and Treble are looking for their forever home together!
Here’s a note from their foster dad:
“Treble and Alto are two very hairless rats from Quebec. Treble is very curious and explorative, while Alto is striving to accomplish his goal of sleeping 22 hours a day. Make sure you include soft, covered places for them to burrow in their cage, they love to be under covers due to their lack of hair. They both enjoy being picked up and held, and Alto is partial to sleeping in a pocket. They also love eating rat food, vegetables, fruits, and grains. As long as they have ample room to explore, lots of attention, and food and water, these guys will be very happy.”
Ladybird recommends Critter Nation cages. They are hands down the most spacious, and best quality enclosure for small animals on the market. They come in single and double sizes, and can be modified and customized to create enrichment and provide comfort. Their design and solid manufacturing almost entirely eliminates the possibility of accidental escape. Critter Nation cages are available (or can be ordered) at most local pet supply stores.
Can’t adopt but want to help?
Monetary donations are always needed, but if you’d like to donate something specifically for the rats in our care, donations of rat food, small pet blankets (used for cage lining), rat hammocks and fleece liners for Critter Nation cages are very much appreciated!
