Meredith
*We’re thrilled to report that Adeline and Meredith have found a wonderful forever home with a loving family. Congratulations, ladies! We’re so happy for you.
Meredith and Adeline were found as “strays” and brought to Hamilton Animal Services. No owner came forward to claim them. The likely scenario is that they were abandoned by their owner because they were no longer wanted. Currently, pet abandonment is at an all time high – especially small animals like guinea pigs and rabbits. We really wish people would stop doing this. Domestic guinea pigs do not have survival skills to live outside on their own, particularly in an Ontario winter. Abandoning animals outdoors can be sentencing them to a prolonged, painful death by starvation, falling victim to predators, freezing to death… the list goes on. Please, don’t get a pet if you can’t commit for the life of the pet.
Meredith and Adeline had a vet visit on their rescue day, and they were given a clean bill of health. Because we don’t know if the girls were around any male guinea pigs in their previous home, we kept them in our care for just under three months, which is the average gestation period for guinea pigs. Thankfully, they weren’t pregnant, and now they’re ready to move to the next chapter of their life in their forever home.
We’ll have a report from their foster home soon.
Please adopt Meredith and Adeline!

Guinea pigs need much more room than the typical pet store guinea pig cages offer. Here are some websites that have great examples of the type of cages pigs can live happily in, so that they have lots of room to move around and explore:
