Finnegan
* Finnegan has been adopted! Yay! *
Finnegan and Frank are a pair of Lhasa Apsos who came into Hamilton Animal Services as strays. They were severely matted when they arrived, but they were happy and friendly boys. No owner came forward to claim Frank and Finnegan, and we were happy to get these sweet guys out of the shelter and into the safety of a foster home.
At their vet visit, blood work showed that Finnegan had a high white blood cell count, so he was started on medication. Their foster mom took them for a much needed grooming, and now they’re looking and smelling fantastic! Secondary blood results a short time later showed that Finnegan’s levels were back to normal, so we were able to have both dogs neutered. Their surgeries went well, and now they’re ready to find their forever homes.
Since coming into our care, Frank and Finnegan have had little spats. Nothing too serious at first, but over time, the fights escalated to the point that fur was flying and they had to be pried apart. There wasn’t a clear trigger for their aggression towards each other, but the frequency and level of violence reached a breaking point, and they had to be separated. They’re still living in the same home and can see each other for visits and walks together, but they cannot be trusted to be together full time anymore. After long discussions between their foster family, our vets, and a professional trainer, the collective decision was made to make Finnegan and Frankie available for adoption separately. We know this will be disappointing to some, but this isn’t a decision that was made lightly. It was made to protect the dogs and their caregivers from potential serious injury.
Should there be any questions or concerns, Frank and Finnegan’s foster family and the trainer are both available to chat with potential adopters about the situation.
Here’s a note about Frank and Finnegan from their foster family.
“Sweet Frank.
He is a lovely dog who loves being pet, getting a belly rub, scratches, cuddled and any fun attention. He
can chase and fetch a ball and loves to play. He is learning to walk well on the leash and loves walks. He
will greet other dogs with a bark. He has long, lanky legs that make him run and jump like a gazelle. In
fact, he can leap over baby gates as well as onto couches and beds when his people are there. He loves
people! More than anything else he wants to please his people and will go anywhere and do anything
with them. In the last few weeks with his foster family, he has learned his name and responds to
direction.
Frank has a gentle mouth and loves treats and being given treats. He will sit for a treat and sometimes
dance. He loves playing with toys and chewing them up. He will play tug-of-war gently with a person.
Frank is a fun and energetic little monkey dog and will come when he is called…even when there is a
squirrel in the yard (mostly)! He is a very intelligent little fellow who responds well to praise and
positive attention.
He will need a well fenced yard and a home with no cats or small creatures. He seems to be very
interested in his cat sisters and brothers in the foster home but does not read their signal when they
want him to leave them alone.
Fun Finnegan.
Finnegan is a supercharged and energetic dog that loves people. He loves to run and play, play tug-of
war and walk beside his people when he is off leash (in a yard or fenced park). He loves going on long
walks and then coming home to have some cuddly naps. He will come when he is called in the house
and yard. He is a very intelligent little man who responds well to praise and positive attention.
He will run off to chase a squirrel if one happens to be around. He can climb or jump into almost any
situation and would go to the ends of the earth with his person. He is such a fun little monkey dog and
is fun to be around. He fears very little.
He loves having his back scratched and his belly rubbed, pets and any fun attention. He has a sweet
disposition and a gentle mouth, and he loves earning treats. He will dance and spin for treats and pets.
He will need a well fenced yard and a home with no cats or small creatures. He seems to be very
interested in his cat sisters and brothers in the foster home but does not read their signals when they
want him to leave them alone.”
