Thumbelina
The Ladybird Animal Sanctuary rescued Thumbelina from Hamilton Animal Control where she found herself as a stray. We love love love her extra toes!
Thumbelina was adopted, then returned to us the next day because of her behaviour. She is back into her original foster home and we monitored her under the advice of our vets. She seems to be back to her normal self and is now ready to find her forever home again…
Here’s a note from Thumbelina’s foster mom:
“Thumbelina is a very playful and active girl. She LOVES her little mouse toys, which she enjoys throwing up in the air and across the room. She brings them with her everywhere she goes… we will frequently see her trotting around the house with one in her mouth. At night, she sleeps with us on our bed (along with the rest of our clan), and sometimes we will wake up to 5 or 6 toy mice at the bottom of the bed that she has obviously brought us as gifts during the night. Thumbelina is very sweet and affectionate, and loves to give kisses and curl up on my husband’s lap (it must be warmer than mine). She can also be quite needy and a little high-maintenance at times, so she needs someone who will pay her a lot of attention and shower her with affection… but only on her schedule, when she wants it of course! (You will learn). She will let you know (in no uncertain terms) when she’s had enough, and needs someone who will understand and respect her boundaries, so she wouldn’t be suited to a household with young children. She doesn’t mind being picked up, but will not tolerate being held for too long. Thumbelina is very clean and our personal grooming habits must not be up to her standards, as she constantly attempting to bathe us. She also attempts this with our other cats (she loves nothing more than a good groom-fest!), but sadly she is rejected by all but one… our boy Rupert, who is a gentle old guy and a total love bug. Thumbelina and Rupert have become like two peas in a pod… spending hours on end grooming each other, “holding paws”, sunbathing together in a window or snuggling up and sleeping by the fire (it’s extremely cute!). For that reason, we think that Thumbelina would really enjoy a feline companion in her forever home… as long as the cat is very laid back and somewhat social (i.e. enjoys snuggling). She would likely not do as well with an aloof/stand-offish cat who enjoys solitude, as she is kind of like a human toddler… always in your face, needing attention and wanting to play. She may take a while to get used to her new surroundings, so you have to be patient and willing to give her time to adapt. Poor Thumbelina has been through a lot, and she deserves a chance to show you what a sweet cat and wonderful little companion she can be. We love her and we will miss her, but we hope that she finds her forever home soon… hopefully the right one this time.”
Thumbelina was adopted by her foster home! Yay!
Thumbelina and her best friend Rupert. Together forever!
