Baby Yoda
* Baby Yoda found his forever home with a lovely person, and he’ll have other rats in his new home to be friends with! Yay! Baby Yoda was surrendered to a Quebec shelter by his owners. One Last Chance Rescue reached out to us for help, we were happy to welcome this little naked guy in. Thank you to them, and thank you to the organizers and drivers at Freedom Drivers Animal Rescue Transport for getting Baby Yoda to us safely. One of Baby Yoda’s eyes is mostly closed and non-functioning. Hairless rats are prone to eye issues, due… read more >>
Miley
* Miley found her forever home with a lovely person! Yay! * Miley came into Hamilton Animal Services as a stray. More likely, Miley’s owners no longer wanted her so they abandoned her outdoors. Thankfully she survived the cold and ended up safe. We were glad to get Miley out of the shelter and into a loving foster home. Miley is a nice hammy, but she isn’t fond of being handled. She’ll try to bite if she feels threatened. For this reason, she would not be a good fit for a home with small children. Her foster home has provided Miley… read more >>
Morty
* Madeline and Morty found their forever home together with an awesome family! Yay! * Magnolia arrived at Hamilton Animal Services as a stray, and she gave birth to five babies the next day. Sadly, one baby passed away suddenly. Nobody came forward to claim Magnolia, and when HAS staff reached out to us for help, we were happy to get Magnolia and her little family out of the stress of the shelter. Magnolia did a fantastic job raising her family. When the babies turned eight weeks old, they had a vet visit, and they were all given a clean… read more >>

Faith
* Faith found her forever home with lovey people! Woo hoo! * Faith ended up at Hamilton Animal Services as a stray and was not claimed by her owner. HAS had her spayed in hopes of putting her into their adoption program, but Faith wasn’t doing well in a shelter environment. HAS asked us to help, and we were happy to get this sweet, shy girl out of the shelter and into a safe and warm foster home. Faith had a check-up at the vet on her rescue day and had the sutures removed from her spay surgery. The vet… read more >>
Churro
* Churro found his forever home with a wonderful person! Woo hoo! * Twelve year old Churro was surrendered to a shelter in Quebec by his owners because of allergies. A noisy shelter is definitely no place for a sensitive chinchilla, let alone a senior. When the amazing folks at One Last Chance Rescue reached out to us for help, we were happy to welcome this sweet guy in, and the equally amazing organizers and drivers at Freedom Drivers Animal Rescue Transport got Churro to us safely. Big thank you to the volunteers from both organizations! Churro is a friendly… read more >>

Van Gogh
* Van Gogh found his forever home with awesome people! Yay! * Van Gogh arrived at Hamilton Animal Services as a stray, but no owner came forward to claim him. He was infested with fleas and earmites, and he had a large, nasty looking mass in his ear. He was scratching at his ear so much, shelter staff had to put a cone on him to ensure he didn’t do any further damage. We got Van Gogh into the vet on his rescue day, and the vet advised that inside the ear was an ulcerated mass. It was quite smelly… read more >>
Troy
*Tobias, Theodore and Troy found their forever home together with awesome people! Woo hoo! * We rescued Tobias, Theodore and Troy from Toronto Animal Services. They originally came from a situation where a person had too many rats. These sweeties are about 6 weeks old, and they’re lovely little boys. They received a clean bill of health at their vet visit, and now they’re ready to find their forever home! Tobias, Theodore and Troy are friendly and easy to handle, though they can be wriggly. They’d do best in a home with older children. They love snacks, especially cheerios and… read more >>

Millie
* Millie has been adopted by her foster home! Yippee! * Millie arrived at Hamilton Animal Services frightened and injured. It’s not known for sure what happened to her, but she was missing a lot of fur from the top of her head, and she had open wounds on her face. To top it off, Millie was infested with lice. HAS staff tended to Millie’s wounds and they treated the mites. Nobody came forward to claim Milly, and because of her shyness, HAS reached out to us for help. We were happy to get little Millie out of the shelter… read more >>
Superstar musicians come to the aid of Hamilton animal sanctuary
The Hamilton Spectator, Hamilton Ontario By Graham Rockingham, Contributing Columnist The three founders of the Ladybird Animal Sanctuary figure it’s time to build a home – a farm — for the Hamilton-based non-profit group that has found safe homes for more than a thousand animals — cats, dogs, bunnies, turtles, hamsters, even rats. And Melissa McClelland, Janine Stoll and Lisa Winn have enlisted the help of a few musical friends to help them raise the money to build that farm. It’s an impressive list that includes Bryan Adams, Jim Cuddy, Jann Arden, Sarah McLachlan, Ed Robertson of the Barenaked Ladies,… read more >>
Vera
* Vera has been adopted by her foster family! Yay! * Vera came into Hamilton Animal Services when her owner was evicted. After a short time at the shelter, staff noticed that Vera was drinking an excessive amount of water. A blood test showed that she was diabetic. Staff started her on insulin and kept her blood levels regulated over the weeks she spent in their care. We were lucky enough to secure a foster home who has experience with diabetic cats, and got Vera out of the shelter. On her rescue day, Vera had a visit with Dr. Camilleri… read more >>
Leonard
* Leonard found his forever home with lovely people! Yay! * Leonard came into Hamilton Animal Services as a stray. Despite being at the shelter for more than a month, no owner came forward to claim him. We were happy to get Leonard out of the shelter when a foster home opened up. When he arrived into our care, Leonard was a bit on the thin side and he had some sparse fur, but he was a serious purr head right from the get go. He likes to chat with his foster family, and his happy feet are always going. Blood work showed… read more >>

* Roxy found her forever home with lovely people! Yay! * Roxy was surrendered to Hamilton Animal Services when her owners divorced. She was terrified and very upset when she first arrived at the shelter, but after a few weeks she warmed up and became a favourite among the staff. Once a foster home became available, we were happy to get Roxy out of the shelter. Roxy had a vet visit and she was given a clean bill of health, other than a bit of tartar on her teeth and that she needs to lose a bit of weight. Otherwise, she’s ready… read more >>

She was skinny, flea infested, and had skin issues that were likely caused by the fleas. To top it off, Pixie was pregnant. Pixie’s owners did not come forward to claim her, and she ended up giving birth to three kittens on July 22nd – Ozzie, Lemmy and Tommy Lee. Bluebell
We are extremely sad to report that Bluebell passed away suddenly in her foster home. She had been her normal self the night before and when her foster family woke in the morning, she had passed suddenly at some point in the night. There were no outward signs as to what happened, but we have sent her wee body to the vet to see if we can get an answer. Our hearts go out to Bluebell’s foster family, and to little Benson, who had a very close bond with her. Sleep well, Bluebell. We’ll never forget your sweet face. … read more >>
