Moon
* Moon found his forever home with an awesome person! Woo hoo! * Mags, Marlowe, Sun, Moon and Emerald were found outdoors on their own and brought to Hamilton Animal Services. It’s likely these rabbits were originally from a nearby home where rabbits were being indiscriminately bred and allowed to wander the owner’s property, and the neighbourhood. Thankfully, several rescue organizations stepped in and took as many of the remaining rabbits they could catch. The babies had a vet visit on their rescue day, and although they were healthier than little Diamond who came from the same area, they were still quite thin… read more >>

Cashew
* Cashew has been adopted by his foster home! Yippee! You can follow Cashew’s adventures in his forever home on Instagram @hazel.and.cashew.the.dwarfs * Cashew was found as a stray and brought to Hamilton Animal Services. HAS asked us for emergency help because of Cashew’s obvious leg injury, and we agreed on the spot. Cashew was sent from HAS to Spencer Creek Animal Hospital where small animal specialist Dr. Stubbs was able to do an exam and x-rays. Turns out, the wonky leg is not broken, but it is dislocated, and may have been so for some time. There’s no way to… read more >>
Abigail
* Abigail and Avery found their forever home together with awesome people! Woo hoo! * We rescued Adley, Amelia, Aubrey, Aurora, Avery, and Abigail from Quinte Humane Society. Their owner surrendered them (and 5 other rats) to the shelter because they had too many. Big thank you to Critter Cabs Animal Rescue Transport volunteers for getting the rats to us! Adley and Aubrey had significant tumours that we had removed, and they healed up perfectly in their foster home. Everyone waited out the gestation period, and thankfully nobody was pregnant. Aubrey and Aurora were adopted shortly after we made everyone available,… read more >>

* Cheerio found her forever home with amazing people! Yippee! * An update from Cheerio’s adopter: “Hi Ladybirds, I have some good news to share! I’ve been doing short (2 hr/evening) cohabitation sessions for about a week now. Today, I thought I’d try a bit longer. Cheerio and Popcorn have been in here since 9am. I think they’re ready to move in together full time! Best, Natalie“ Cheerio came into Hamilton Animal Services after being found in a backyard in Hamilton. Thank you to the kind folks to managed to carefully contain Cheerio when she showed up on… read more >>
Cuterebras
Cuterebriasis is a relatively common condition that results from the migration of fly larvae through the bodies of small mammals. A cuterebra is the larval stage of the bot fly, which is found in most regions of North America. Bot flies are large, non-feeding flies and they tend to target small mammals (mostly rodents, including rabbits) as a host for their larvae. Most cases in North America occur in the late summer/early fall. Bot flies will lay their eggs near the openings to small mammal burrows, so that when contact is made between the animal and the latent eggs, the… read more >>

Niblet
We’re sad to report that wee Niblet passed away suddenly. Despite vet visits and medication, he couldn’t shake the respiratory infection that had been troubling him since his arrival, but there was clearly something more going on we didn’t know about that his little body just couldn’t handle. We’re heartbroken to lose such a young baby, whose life was truly just starting. Our condolences go out to Niblet’s foster family. Rest in peace sweet Niblet. We’ll never forget you. Lincoln County Humane Society contacted us when they received a stray baby rat with injuries to his foot and tail. Poor… read more >>
Myrtle
* Myrtle found her forever home with awesome people! Yay! * Myrtle was surrendered to Hamilton Animal Services by her owner when they could no longer care for her. Myrtle was very frightened when she first arrived at HAS, but she warmed up pretty quickly when she realized everybody there was nice to her. When a foster home opened up, we were happy to get Myrtle out of the shelter. She had a vet visit the next day, and other than needing to lose a few pounds, Myrtle is in good health. We’ve got Myrtle started on a weight loss… read more >>
Wilson
* Wilson found his forever home with awesome people and another bunny to be friends with! * Wilson came into Hamilton Animal Services as a stray. He was infested with fleas and was missing a lot of fur on his belly and legs. We’re not sure what caused the hair loss. Could have been a flea allergy, or Wilson may have been left in an unclean cage for an extended period of time. Either way, HAS staff treated Wilson for the fleas and they kept his cage clean for the duration of his stay. After a short time, Wilson’s fur… read more >>
Betsy
* Betsy found her forever home with awesome people! Yay Betsy! * Betsy was found as a stray with a broken leg. Hamilton Animal Services was called and they took Betsy to their vet where her leg was wrapped up and she was put on pain medication. After Betsy’s stray time was done and no owner came forward to claim her, HAS reached out to us for help. We transported Betsy to see Dr. O’Brien at Village Cat Clinic, and the leg was given a thorough exam. The break was so severe, our options were; try to repair it with several expensive… read more >>

* Willa found her forever home with awesome people! Yay! * Willa was found as a stray and brought to Hamilton Animal Services. No owner came forward to claim her, so we were happy to get her out of the shelter and into a foster home. Willa is the cutest little dog, but along with that cuteness comes some small dog attitude. When she’s not giving you that attitude, Willa is a super snuggler. She loves when her foster mom is reading, because that’s her time to flop and nap. So cute! She’s a lap, body, neck, and head dog… read more >>
Frankie
We had to say goodbye to Frankie yesterday. Thank you to one of Frankie’s foster moms, Kylie ( The Brow Room ) for loving Frankie right until the end, and for writing this beautiful tribute to her. Walnut
* Walnut found his forever home with awesome people! Woo hoo! * Walnut ended up at Toronto Animal Services after being left in bag on the TTC. His nails were extremely overgrown, and his back end had to be shaved because it was so dirty and matted. Despite the obvious neglect, Walnut is a friendly little guy. We had Walnut neutered, and after he healed from his surgery, he was ready to find his forever home! Walnut is a sweet pig. He likes head and ear scritches, but he’s not thrilled about being picked up. He enjoys spending time out of… read more >>
Sophie
* Sophie found her forever home with wonderful people! Yay! * Sophie came into Hamilton Animal Services as a stray. Sophie’s owners were contacted through her microchip, but when the owners were told Sophie was at the shelter, they told shelter staff they wouldn’t be coming to get her. When she first arrived at the shelter, Sophie was drinking an excessive amount of water and urinating frequently. Urine and blood tests were run, but no issues could be found. During her time at Animal Services (almost two months) Sophie’s excessive water intake subsided and she was thankfully back to normal…. read more >>
Wilfred
* Ralph and Wilfred found their forever home with wonderful people! Yay! * Ralph and Wilfred were abandoned in a box at a Walmart in Hamilton. Their nails were extremely long, and their fur was matted and dirty. They were clearly not properly cared for before they were dumped. Hamilton Animal Services was called, and they took the pigs in. Thankfully, we had an open foster home waiting for guinea pigs, so Ralph and Wilfred didn’t have to spend too much time at HAS. We got the pigs to the vet on their rescue day, and despite their past neglect, they are relatively… read more >>
