Mayonnaise

* Mayonnaise found his forever home with his foster home! Yay! * Mayonnaise was surrendered to Hamilton Animal Services because of allergies in his owner’s family. Shortly after his arrival, HAS staff noticed that Mayonnaise was hording his food, but not really eating it. His fur was disheveled, and he seemed to be losing weight. HAS staff reached out to us, and we were happy to help. We got Mayonnaise out of the shelter and straight to small animal specialist Dr. Stubbs at Spencer Creek Animal Hospital for a check-up. Dr. Stubbs didn’t see anything unusual during the physical exam,…   read more >>

Dove

Dove @ foster

* Dove found her forever home with lovely people! * Dove was picked up from the side of a road by Hamilton Animal Services after possibly being hit by a car. She was taken directly to the vet where x-rays revealed that her pelvis is fractured. She was given pain medication and sent back to the shelter to wait out her stray time. The vet recommended strict cage rest, so she was set up with lots of soft blankets to keep her comfortable. Though she was not fully mobile, Dove was eating, drinking and using the litter box normally, which…   read more >>

Martin

Martin

*Timothy and Martin found their forever home with lovely people!* Timothy and Martin were surrendered to Hamilton Animal Services when their owner no longer wanted them. These boys are shy, but they’re warming up in their foster home. They’re very bonded, and you never find one without the other. We’re not sure if Timothy and Martin are brothers, but they sure do love each other! All went well at their vet visit, and they’re now ready to find their forever home! Here’s a report from their foster home: “Martin was initially more shy than Timothy, but he is coming out…   read more >>

* Captain Longtail and Junior found their forever home together! Yay! * Fifteen mice were surrendered to Hamilton Animal Services when their owner was no longer able to care for them. Captain Longtail and Junior are lovely little guys. Junior is much younger than Captain, but they are the best of friends and are always together. Captain and Junior had a vet visit, and they were given a clean bill of health. They’re now ready to start the search for their forever home! Most of the females are pregnant, or have recently given birth. We were able to rescue two of the mice, and we’re currently working on rescuing more. Sauvignon

Sauvignon

*Sauvignon has been adopted by an awesome person!* Sauvignon and eight other hamsters (a mom, dad and six other babies) were surrendered to Hamilton Animal Services by their owner because they had “too many.” Although the hamsters are very cute, they’re not fans of being handled. Their foster home is working on getting them more comfortable with it, but in typical dwarf hamster fashion, the’ll likely always be a little mean. The hamsters had a check-up at the vet, and were given a clean bill of health. After a few months in foster care Sauvignon was adopted to an awesome person!

Chianti

Chianti @ Pet Valu

After being in our care for more than a year, we made Chianti a Ladybird Permanent Resident because of ongoing issues with his health. He continued to get the frequent veterinary care he required until he passed away peacefully in his sleep a few months later. Thank you to Cathryn and the staff at Dundas Pet Valu for looking after Chianti, and for giving him the best life any hamster could have asked for. Sleep well Chianti! You will be missed… Chianti and eight other hamsters (a mom, dad and six other babies) were surrendered to Hamilton Animal Services by their…   read more >>

Pino

Pino

Pino and eight other hamsters (a mom and seven babies) were surrendered to Hamilton Animal Services by their owner because they had “too many.” Pino was available for adoption for quite some time with no interest at all. Due to Pino’s recurring health issues, we made him a Ladybird permanent resident.  After being in our care for many months, and going through many medical challenges, we had to say goodbye to Pino when his health took a turn for the worse and there was nothing medical intervention could do. Thank you Cathryn and staff from Dundas Pet Valu for caring for Pino…   read more >>

2018 – A year in rescue

Ladybird Animal Sanctuary rescued 116 animals in 2018. This video features an animal from each month of the year, taken on their rescue day. All these animals are now living “the good life” thanks to our amazing foster homes, vet clinics, adopters, donors, volunteers and social media followers. We couldn’t rescue any animals without all of you, and we are so thankful! Here’s to a wonderful 2019 for you and yours. Happy New Year! Music in this video: “The Good Life” by Matthew de Zoete

Rosie

Rosie @ foster

* Rosie found her forever home with amazing people! * Rosie ended up at Hamilton Animal Services as a stray. She is such a lovely dog. Sweet and cuddly, and always has a happy tail going. We had Rosie spayed, had her teeth cleaned, and she was treated for an ear infection, and for her tail where the end had split. After some healing in her foster home, she’s ready to find her forever home! Here’s a note from her foster home: “Rosie is possibly one of the most loving dogs you will ever meet. She is sweet and gentle, but…   read more >>

Mama B

Mama B - photo by Willow Bean Photography

* Mama B found her forever home with a lovely person! * We rescued Mama B (Beatrix) from Hamilton Animal Services. It’s likely that Mama B is the mother of Beckett and Bash, who were picked up from the same address. Mama B is a lovely kitty. On her rescue day, she didn’t make a peep in the car, and she was “makin’ biscuits” the whole trip to her foster home. It wasn’t possible to reunite her with Beckett and Bash, but she has a great foster home to love and care for her. We had Mama B spayed, and…   read more >>

Bruno

Bruno - Photo by Willow Bean Photography

* Bruno found his forever home with a lovely person! * Bruno was found as a stray and brought to Hamilton Animal Services. This poor cat had been suffering for quite some time. His mouth and teeth were a mess, he was infested with fleas, he had an awful case of ear mites, his skin was scabby, and he was extremely dirty. The horrible state of his fur was likely caused by the fact that his mouth hurt too much for him to groom himself. Shelter staff did a SNAP test and it came back positive for FIV. Not a…   read more >>

Ricotta

Rigatoni and Ricotta have been adopted together! Yay! We rescued Rigatoni and Ricotta from Hamilton Animal Services. They were part of a group of six rabbits (including Winter, Luna & Lily) who were abandoned in a box in a rural area of Stoney Creek. Shelter staff separated the boys from the girls when they arrived, and thankfully, none of the girls were pregnant. Shortly after their rescue day, we had Rigatoni and Ricotta fixed, and they healed up perfectly in their foster home. A couple of weeks after their surgeries, we re-introduced them and they were very happy to be together.  They’ve…   read more >>

Dusty

Dusty - photo by Willow Bean Photography

* Dusty found his forever home with lovely people! * Dusty was found as a stray and brought to Hamilton Animal Services. He’s such a cute and friendly little guy, we can’t imagine that someone wasn’t missing him, but nobody came looking. When his stray time was done, we were happy to get Dusty out of the shelter, into the vet for a check-up, and into a foster home. Dusty settled in great. He was not fearful of his new surroundings at all. He had lots of affection for everyone. After a couple of weeks, Dusty was introduced to the…   read more >>
