Pontiac
* Pontiac and Portia found their forever home together with wonderful people! * Pontiac was brought into Hamilton Animal Control as a stray. A couple of days before, a female rat who looked identical to Pontiac had been brought into HAC as a stray from the same area. This rat (Portia) turned out to be pregnant, so we’re assuming she and Pontiac were together before they ended up at the shelter separately. When we rescued Pontiac, Portia and her babies, Pontiac went to one foster home, and Portia and her babies went to another. We were happy Portia could care for… read more >>
Persephone
August 24th, 2017, Pebbles,Panda and Persephone were born at Hamilton Animal Services to their mother Portia, who came into the shelter as a stray. When the baby rats were two weeks old, we were able to rescue the family from the shelter when a foster home opened up for them. Much better for Portia to raise her babies in a loving home than in a noisy shelter! Pebbles, Panda and Persephone spent months in their foster home before being moved to Spencer Creek Animal Hospital to be fostered there. The hope was, being in the view of the public in… read more >>

Freddie
* Freddie found his forever home with amazing people! * Freddie ended up at Toronto Animal Services as a stray. During his time at TAS, he became territorial in his cage and started to get bitey when staff cleaned his cage or when members of the public stuck their fingers through the bars. He was lovely when he was outside the cage, but unfortunately TAS were only able to house him in a cage at their shelter, and he was becoming more and more aggressive the longer he stayed. TAS reached out to Ladybird in hopes that we could… read more >>

Almond
Almond and Pistachio found their forever home with lovely people! Almond and Pistachio were surrendered to a high-volume shelter in Quebec when their owner didn’t have time for them any longer. Thank you to the Freedom Drivers Animal Rescue Transport volunteers for getting Almond and Pistachio safely to us all the way from Quebec! Almond and Pistachio are shy, but sweet rats and they are very bonded to each other, so they must be adopted as a pair. For those wondering, Almond isn’t bald because of any health issue or disease. He’s just a particular breed of rat that is… read more >>
Jersey
* Jersey found his forever home with lovely people! * We rescued Jersey from Hamilton Animal Control. Jersey came into HAC as a stray, and he was never claimed by his owners. What an absolute doll Jersey is! Such a friendly guy. As you can see from his photos and video, Jersey could use to lose a few pounds. He’s a very hefty boy! After his rescue, Jersey had a vet appointment where he had a physical, blood work. Blood results were normal and his physical was great, other than the obvious… So, we’ve got Jersey started on a… read more >>
Alabama
Alabama has been adopted by her foster home! Yay! We rescued Clarence and Alabama from Oakville Humane Society. Clarence was 3 weeks old and had a severe bite wound when he came into Oakville Humane Society, and Alabama was a skinny orphaned kitten who came into the shelter alone. Shelter staff decided to put them together, because a single kitten is a lonely kitten! They became the best of friends in their foster home. Clarence’s bite wound healed with treatment. Later xrays showed that Clarence is missing the head of his femur on his left leg, but the vet didn’t… read more >>
Clarence
MARCH 6/2018 We lost our sweet Clarence today. Back in August, we took in Clarence and ‘sister’ Alabama with the knowledge that they were both Feline Leukemia positive. With FeLV, one can never know whether the cat will stay happy and healthy for a long time (like our very first rescue, Oliver) or if they’ll get sick often and not live very long. Sadly, the latter was the case with Clarence. We want to thank Clarence’s foster mom for caring for him and loving him right to the end. Rest In Peace Clarence. We will never forget your sweet face…. read more >>
Tabitha
Tabitha was brought to Hamilton Animal Control as a stray. She has been declawed, so if she was truly a stray, whoever owned her didn’t come to the shelter looking for her. Tabitha had been at the shelter for a month before we were finally able to rescue her. During the month she was with us, Tabitha had issues with mobility and with her bowels. Along with this, she had not been eating well, despite different medications and special foods to help stimulate her appetite. We knew from x-rays that Tabitha had severe arthritis in her back and knees. Surgery… read more >>
Sydney
* Sydney found her forever home with a lovely person! * Sydney came into Hamilton Animal Control as a stray. Because she was so rail thin, we had her tested for FIV and FeLV and both were negative. Yay! Our vets are not sure why Sydney was so skinny, but her foster home did a great job of getting some much needed weight onto her. We had Sydney spayed, and she healed very well in her foster home. Now she’s ready to find her forever home! Here’s a report from Sydney’s foster home: “Sydney is a beautiful green eyed… read more >>
Sydney Wood Foundation donation
Earlier this week we received a generous donation from the most beautiful family foundation. Sydney Wood Purple Butterfly of Hope Foundation was created by the Wood family after the very sudden loss of their daughter, Sydney (11), in 2012. The foundation raises funds through community events and then donates to various community causes that Sydney likely would have backed. We’re honoured to have the support of this selfless foundation to honour the memory of a truly incredible person. We’d like to extend love and thanks to Sue, Greg, Mallory and Kamryn for your generosity and kindness. We’re certain that Sydney is so… read more >>
