Ocean
We rescued Ocean from Hamilton Animal Control where she found herself as a stray. Ocean is just the friendliest kitty you ever did meet! Happy feet and head bonks are her favourite things! We took Ocean straight from HAC to the vet where it was discovered that Ocean is already spayed. There was a large lump next to her spay scar which is in indication that she likely strained that area shortly after her spay surgery, but the hernia was never repaired by her previous owners. Ocean also needed most of her teeth removed as they were so decayed. It also looked… read more >>

Holly
Ladybird rescued Holly from Hamilton Animal Control where she found herself as a stray. We were told that Holly had been hit by a car and was suffering from a broken tooth and some slight injuries to her mouth when she was picked up by animal control officers. Holly received minor vet care and was sent back to the shelter on pain medication to wait out her stray time. Despite her injuries, Holly was very friendly toward all the shelter staff and always had a head bonk and happy feet for everyone. When a foster home opened up, we were… read more >>

Ace
We rescued Ace from Hamilton Animal Control where he found himself as a stray. When Ace first came into HAC, he had such a severe ear infection that puss was pouring out of his ear and maggots were found inside. Gross! Poor Ace must have been suffering and in pain for a long time! Animal Control got him some basic vet care that mostly cleaned up his ear, but Ace was left with a tilted head. We rescued Ace from HAC and took him to the vet where he was neutered and his ears flushed out. Medication and love from… read more >>
Tapioca
Ladybird rescued Timbit and Tapioca from a high-volume shelter in Laval, Quebec. The shelter didn’t provide us any info on them, so we’re not sure their ages, but they’re lovely little birds! Timbit and Tapioca are lovely little budgies, but they’re not too keen on being handled by people. Their foster family is working on that now and we’re hoping they’ll warm up to the idea. They do enjoy each other’s company and we are asking that they be adopted as a pair. Timbit and Tapioca found their forever home together with a lovely person! Thank you to the volunteers at… read more >>

Susie
Ladybird rescued Susie from Hamilton Animal Control. Susie was a “trap cat”, meaning a citizen who baits a live trap on their property caught her in the trap and brought her into HAC. Technically Susie is a stray, but she’s a very, very friendly girl, so we know she belonged to someone at some point. Sadly, nobody came forward to claim her. The staff at HAC noticed that Susie was favouring her back leg. In a general check-over, the visiting HAC vet proposed that the leg had broken and was healing…but not in a good way. Susie was put on… read more >>

Bobby
* After being in foster care for almost a whole year, Bobby finally found his forever home! And he totally hit the jackpot! You can follow Bobby’s adventures in his forever home by following @liser_mac on Instagram! Hamilton Animal Control received a call from a member of the public about a rabbit abandoned in a box in a park. Animal Control picked the rabbit up and discovered he had a very large lump in his neck/shoulder area. It wasn’t easily detected, as it somewhat blended in to his dewlap (neck fat) when he sat a certain way. This abscess… read more >>
Farm Animal Care Conference at Farm Sanctuary!
Ladybird’s ultimate goal is to have a property where we can house more cats, dogs and small animals, and where we can welcome farm animals in need of rescue. Before attaining that goal, we are visiting other sanctuaries to gather as much knowledge as we can and to learn from others who are already doing what we are so looking forward to! In September of 2015, Ladybird founders Melissa, Janine and Lisa attended the Farm Sanctuary’s Farm Animal Care Conference at the Watkins Glen, New York location. We got “hands on” learning how to start and operate a sanctuary, effective fundraising,… read more >>
Thank you Hamilton Port Authority!

And another massive thank you for the very generous donation the port staff presented to Ladybird for $5000 that they raised at a charity golf tournament! Amazing! Thank you so much Hamilton Port Authority staff! http://hamiltonport.ca/
Cocoa
We rescued Cocoa and her five kittens from Hamilton Animal Control where they found themselves as strays. Cocoa had just given birth to five kittens on someone’s porch a couple of days before they were brought in. A few days after Cocoa and her babies arrived at the shelter, a single stray kitten close in age was brought into HAC separately. The staff at HAC put this kitten in with Cocoa and babies to see if Cocoa would accept the new little one. She did, and the wayward kitten thrived with her new family. What a sweet mama Cocoa is!… read more >>
Katie
* Katie found her forever home with lovely people! You can follow Katie’s adventures in her forever home at the Facebook page of her brother Furiosa. Ladybird rescued Katie from Hamilton Animal Control where she found herself as a stray. Katie was extremely thin when she arrived at HAC and staff were worried she might not make it. She started to eat (with help from staff) and re-gain some strength in the two weeks she spent at HAC before her rescue. She still had low body weight and now a protruding belly, but she seemed to be feeling a lot… read more >>
Mocha
Ladybird rescued Mocha the hedgehog from Oakville and Milton Humane Society where she ended up after her owners brought her in. OMHS was overflowing with small animals, so Ladybird was happy to help this wee prickly girl. Mocha found her forever home shortly after her rescue!
Edith
We rescued Edith from Hamilton Animal Control where she ended up after her owners signed her over. She’s a lovely and calm bunny, who loves to explore! Here’s a report from Edith’s foster home: “Edith is such a beautiful, neat, and sweet rabbit. She has such a wonderful personality that is equal parts inquisitive, affectionate, and relaxed. She loves being able to free range in the basement, and always goes to her pen to eat and use the litter box. She takes about the same amount of care as a cat in my opinion, and provides more affection! She is very… read more >>
Archie
We rescued Archie from Hamilton Animal Control where he ended up after his owners signed him over because they were moving. We had him neutered and placed him into a foster home. He’s been doing well there and is now ready to find his forever home! Here’s a report from Archie’s foster home: “Archie is a little bunny with a huge personality. He has come a long way since first arriving, becoming a lot more friendly, adventurous, and quite sassy. Though he’s still nervous in new environments, once he has settled in he has no problem declaring himself the boss. He absolutely… read more >>
Marley
We rescued Marley from Hamilton Animal Control where he found himself as a stray. Marley had been severely neglected before being brought to HAC. He was so matted that he couldn’t move his body properly. His fur was literally dreadlocked all over his body. Marley’s teeth were so rotten that his tongue stuck out most of the time and he drooled. One look into his mouth and it was obvious he was in a lot of pain. Poor guy! When Marley first came into HAC, the staff there did a partial shave down to make him feel a bit more… read more >>
