Hubert

Hubert

* Hubert found his forever home with an awesome person! * Ladybird rescued Hubert the hedgehog from a high-kill shelter in Laval, Quebec. He’s probably the friendliest hedgehog we’ve ever met! He will ball up when frightened, but for the most part he’s out and about, exploring or cuddling up with whoever is handling him. Here’s a report from Hubert’s foster family… “Hubert is starting to come out of his shell (or ball so to speak!). He really enjoys his food and makes adorable crunching noises while eating. He spends lots of time on his running wheel and that is…   read more >>

Four rats

Ladybird rescued four female rats from a high-kill shelter in Laval, Quebec. Not too long after their arrival, their foster home decided the rats should stay forever. Yay!

Mowgli

Mowgli

* Mowgli found his forever home with an awesome family!* Ladybird rescued Mowgli from a high-kill shelter in Laval, Quebec.  Mowgli is a very friendly cockatiel! He’ll jump onto your finger and run up to your shoulder for scritches. So sweet! According to his leg band, Mowgli is 11 years old, but you’d think he was a much younger bird. Here’s a report from Mowgli’s foster home: “Mowgli (AKA Moguls) is a funny little bird. He is quite talkative and loves to chat to himself in his mirror. He sings lots of fabulous birdy songs and can be quite cheeky when…   read more >>

Marty

Marty

We rescued Marty (Feldman) from Hamilton Animal Control where he found himself as a stray. Marty is the sweetest and happiest kitty! Total floppy lap cat who just wants to be loved and loved some more.  But, poor Marty had some serious issues with his teeth and mouth that must have been plaguing him for a long time. He was in terrible pain when he ate… even eating very soft canned food threw him into writhing pain. After seeing him go through that just once, we knew we couldn’t leave Marty at the shelter.  We rescued him and took him straight…   read more >>

Ladybirds visit Ralphy’s Retreat!

Pig

Ladybird’s ultimate goal is to have a property where we can house more cats, dogs and small animals, and where we can start rescuing farm animals. Before attaining that goal, we are visiting local sanctuaries to gather as much knowledge as we can and to learn from others who are already doing what we are so looking forward to! Today, Ladybird founders Lisa, Janine and Melissa visited Ralphy’s Retreat: Sanctuary for Pot-Bellied Pigs and Farm Animals and had a wonderful tour with founder Kara. We learned a lot, and we are so thankful there are places like Ralphy’s out there…   read more >>

Jewel

Jewel at the vet

We rescued Jewel from Hamilton Animal Control where she ended up as a stray. What a little doll Jewel is! Sweet as can be and never stops purring! When she came into Hamilton Animal Control, she had severe diarrhea so she was started on some medications. Jewel was having a hard time keeping herself clean because she had been suffering from the runs for a long time, even before she came into the shelter. The staff at HAC gave her several baths, and shaved her back end because it was such a mess! All this poop business made Jewel’s bum…   read more >>

Jack

Jack

** Louie and Jack found their forever home together! ** We rescued Louie and Jack from a high-volume shelter in Laval, Quebec. They had some skin issues when we rescued them, but they’re all cleared up now and our vets have given the go-ahead that they’re ready to find their forever homes. They’re really lovely ratties! Here’s a report from Louie and Jack’s foster home: “Jack and Louie are fun, playful and curious. Every time we walk into the room, the room. they run and jump on the side of the cage to greet us. They love human interaction. They…   read more >>

Mandy

Mandy

*Mandy found her forever home with lovely people!* Ladybird rescued Mandy from Hamilton Animal Control. Her story before ending up at HAC is a sad one. A citizen walking down the street came upon a man sitting outside his house, trying to give away a kitten. The citizen was concerned, as the cat looked like it was in rough shape, so they decided to take her. The man said the kitten had “bitten an electrical chord,” and that’s why she looked the way she did.  The citizen took the kitten to Hamilton Animal Control and HAC sent her directly to…   read more >>

Mango

Mango

* Mango found her forever home with wonderful people!* We rescued Mango from Hamilton Animal Control where she found herself as a stray. The staff there noticed that she was having trouble seeing, and they thought she might be completely blind. She seemed healthy and happy in every other way, so her vision issue was a mystery. We rescued Mango and took her to the vet to get checked out. The vet determined that she is not completely blind, (she doesn’t bump into things and she can follow a moving object…albeit slower than a normal cat would) and that her…   read more >>

Pepper

Pepper after surgery

Ladybird rescued Pepper and her kittens, Ninja, Peaches and Fudgee-O from Hamilton Animal Control. As you can see, Pepper had an issue with her eye and it needed to be removed. She came through the surgery with flying colours. Despite her eye issue, Pepper always has her happy feet going! Here’s a report from her foster home: “Pepper is a sweet girl that adore attention and pats. She loves to be talked to and does a lot of talking herself when she wants to tell you something (More food please? Let me out of this room!) She is only about a…   read more >>

Roberta

Roberta

We rescued Roberta from Hamilton Animal Control where she found herself as a stray. Roberta’s foster home reports that she is active and healthy, likes to play, and seems to like their cat. But…Roberta isn’t too thrilled about being handled or picked up. She probably didn’t have much interaction with people before coming to Ladybird. For this reason, Roberta needs a home with no small children, and with someone who will be patient, and understanding about her aversion to being handled. Roberta’s foster mom is spending as much time with her as possible, so she learns that love and attention…   read more >>

Frankie

Frankie

** UPDATE – AUGUST 26th, 2015 – Frankie has been adopted! Woo hoo! ** We rescued Frankie from Burlington Animal Control where he ended up as a stray. Frankie was not happy being in a cage in the shelter, and showed his displeasure by being aggressive at the door of his kennel. The staff had a hard time with his disposition and the decision was made to euthanize him. Being a city shelter, the only way the public can view an animal for adoption is by seeing him in the kennel, and nobody was going to adopt a “cage aggressive”…   read more >>

Hope

Hope

The Oakville and Milton Humane Society reached out to Ladybird when they were overwhelmed with rabbits in their shelter. We were happy to take one when we had a foster home open up….and that bunny’s name is Hope! Here’s a note from Hope’s foster home: “Hope is cute and soft and very outgoing. She loves people and she is very curious and loves to explore. She is a good eater but prefers to play and be pet. So far her favourite thing is the time she spends running around and stretching and playing in her xpen. So far she likes…   read more >>

Kimmy Schmidt

Kimmy

We rescued The Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt from a GTA shelter. Due to a physical disability, the shelter was seeking an experienced home or rescue who was familiar with her condition and able to place her into foster care where the specifics of her special needs can be determined. Kimmy was barely surviving on an unkempt lot in Toronto when she was spotted by two employees of a local animal shelter. While there was concern for her welfare (neighbours believed she’d been abandoned), There was more concern about her health as she had difficulty maintaining her balance, and would sometimes fall…   read more >>

JonJon

JonJon

We rescued Rena and her kittens Sammy, JonJon, Clara and Cricket from Hamilton Animal Control! They were a little bit worse for wear from wherever they were living before they ended up at HAC. They all had diarrhea, and Rena was very dirty and had a lot of matting in her fur. But after a couple of vet visits and some TLC from their foster mom, they are now ready to find their forever homes. JonJon’s foster home reports that JonJon is a purr machine and super playful. JonJon found a forever home with a great human family with dog and…   read more >>
