Koshka

Koshka

We rescued Molly and her four kittens from Hamilton Animal Control when Molly’s kittens were about 3 weeks old. The kittens are now ready for adoption.  Koshka is a sweet and fluffy grey kitten who would love to go to his forever home with one of his siblings, or to a home with other cats he can be friends with. Koshka has been adopted, and he’ll have two kitty siblings at his forever home to be friends with!

Thankful

Happy in her foster home

The ladies of Ladybird Animal Sanctuary are thankful for so many things. Our family and friends, our foster homes, our adopters, our volunteers, our donators, our supporters, our vet clinics… and so much more. We couldn’t do what we do here at Ladybird without all of you, and for that, we are so thankful! And we know the animals we rescue are thankful too! Warm Thanksgiving greetings from all of us here at Ladybird! Happy is thankful for all the hugs she is receiving in her foster home!

Happy

Happy

We rescued Happy from Hamilton Animal Control. When she came into HAC as a stray, Happy was covered in fleas and lice, she was painfully thin, she had a large infected open wound on her neck, an ulcer in one eye, and as you can see, the other eye is damaged. Despite all that, she was ‘kneading,” purring, head bonking and loving up the staff at HAC while they examined and treated her. Hence…her name. Happy had her damaged eye removed while she was under for her spay surgery. Turned out there was a very small deformed eye in the socket that had…   read more >>

Kiwi

Kiwi

We rescued Sully and Kiwi from Hamilton Animal Control. They’re active and comical rats who are bonded to each other. For that reason, they must be adopted as a pair. Here’s a note from Sully and Kiwi’s foster home: “Kiwi was really sick and quite a bit smaller than his brother when he was first taken in but with several weeks of antibiotics and handling he is a friendly, curious, healthy little guy. He loves treats! His favourite treats include: crackers, bananas, apple, and yogurt rat treats. When we have him out of the cage to socialize, he is cuddly and…   read more >>

Poppy

Poppy's rescue day

* Poppy found her forever home with lovely people! * We rescued Poppy from Hamilton Animal Control! As you can see, she needed immediate veterinary care for and removal of her eye, so she went straight from HAC to the vet. Poppy is an affectionate and friendly girl despite her condition. We want to send a big thank you to Dr. Renee Fleming and the staff at Guelph Animal Hospital for performing Poppy’s eye surgery free of charge! This was an amazing and generous offer and we were happy to take Dr. Fleming up on it. Poppy was also spayed while…   read more >>

Update on Lala’s kittens

Cassidy

As hopeful as we all were that Lala’s babies would be okay, sadly, one of the babies passed away last week. He was eating, playing and being a normal kitten one moment, then wen downhill very quickly and passed away in his foster home before the foster mom could even get him to the vet. Rest in peace wee kitten! The remaining baby, Cassidy, is going through some completely different issues. His foster mom noticed that this little guy was showing signs of neurological deficits and at times he seemed to be blind. He was also occasionally limping and guarding…   read more >>

An amazing donation!

Lancelot & Dr. Stubbs

This is truly an amazing donation to Ladybird! This morning, Spencer Creek Animal Hospital veterinarian Dr. Christine Stubbs, neutered our newly rescued rabbit Lancelot, and removed a broken tooth that was causing him some issues. He came through the surgery well, and when we went to pick him up this afternoon, we were told that his surgery and further care until his adoption will be donated by Dr. Stubbs!  Incredible! Thank you so much Dr. Stubbs and Spencer Creek for all you do for our small animals. Lancelot says thank you too! Here’s the original post by Dr. Stubbs: “Ice…   read more >>

Rest in Peace Veronica

Veronica at HAC

Poor sweet Veronica. Off and on for months now, Veronica had been vomiting. A lot. She had several vet visits because of it. We did blood tests, different medications, different foods. She would seem better for a while, then be back to excessive barfing. A few weeks ago, she stopped using her litter box and we knew there must be something really wrong. She had been boarding at the vet since then so they could try to nail down exactly what was going on. An xray showed nothing unusual, and she seemed perfectly fine at the vet clinic! Eating and…   read more >>

Another Sad Loss

Peony

Little Peony was back and forth to the vet several times since her rescue. She wasn’t growing and thriving as well as her three sisters. Though her foster mom and our vets did their best with force feeding, medications and treatment, Peony’s little body just couldn’t fight whatever it was that was making her unwell, and she passed away in her foster home yesterday. We’re heartbroken again. Thanks to Peony’s foster mom for trying your best, and to our vets who do everything they can to help all these little souls. We are thankful that we were able to rescue…   read more >>

Please Help

Cheesecake was hospitalized last week due to liver issues, then returned to her foster home as it seemed she was feeling better. She took a turn for the worse and had to be returned to the vet. She’s been there for three days now, and will be staying for the weekend. Cheesecake is feeling a bit better, but she’s still not out of the woods yet. Then, our beautiful Veronica ended up at the vet yesterday due to stomach and urinary issues. She’ll be staying at the vet for the weekend for tests and treatment too. We could really use…   read more >>
