Ladybird Animal Sanctuary’s Third Annual Spring Fair Hamilton Music Notes, by Ric Taylor, May 1- 7, 2014 The only thing bigger than the Ladybird Sideshow’s collective voices is their hearts. While they came together for a mutual musical admiration, the Ladybirds have transformed their mutual love of animals into a non–profit organization to help animals in need. With their annual Spring Fair this weekend, Melissa McClelland, Janine Stoll and Lisa Winn are focusing their talents on raising money to help more in–danger animals with their Ladybird Sanctuary. “Melissa, Janine and I have been friends and musical cohorts for a number…   read more >>

Happy Easter From Basil!

Basil

Basil would like to remind you that if you’re thinking of giving a bunny as a gift this Easter, please make it chocolate or stuffed toy rabbit. Rabbits are a 10 year commitment and thousands of ex-Easter bunnies are abandoned to shelters or into the wild each year when their novelty wears off. Animals should never be an impulse buy or given as a gift. Make this Easter wonderful for everyone…including bunnies! Basil will be available for adoption soon!

A Short Documentary About Ladybird

Ladybird Light Echo

Remember the day of filming we did back in February with Light Echo Productions? Well the video is finally here! Thanks to everyone who participated in the making of this short documentary. It was so fun to do! You’ll recognize a few animals featured on their rescue day; Garth, Sammy, and Milo. And we rescued Will the doberman a couple of days after filming. Enjoy! Send Keene Your Love

Keene at the vet

Please send your love and well wishes to Keene. We rescued Keene and his brother Denny last week, and since his rescue, Keene hasn’t been eating. He’s spent the last two days at the vet being force fed. Our vets are not sure why he’s decided to hunger strike, but he’ll have to stay at the clinic until he is feeling better and is eating on his own. We could sure use your donation right now. Keene needs your help!

Video day!

On February 19, 2014, we rescued six cats and four rats from Hamilton Animal Control. It was a great rescue day for us, and an even better day for the animals we saved. Our friends at Light Echo Productions documented the entire day for their Echos Project. It’s a series of videos that explore the interests and passions of Canadian musicians. It just so happens that all three of Ladybird’s co-founders are Canadian musicians…it was the perfect fit! Scott and Ryan of Light Echo were really great to work with and we’re excited to be able to share this video…   read more >>

2013 Pet Pics with Santa

Our sweet rescued (and adopted!) Gertie came to visit Santa at Munchies Coffee House & BARKery last weekend. She is looking so great! All the photos from the three Sunday photo shoots are posted at the photographer’s page: Hollyberryshots. There were issues with some of the email addresses provided, so if you don’t see your photo on Holly’s page, please send her a message and she’ll try to get it to you right away. Thanks to Munchies and Holly and Santa for donating your time and talent to help Ladybird’s animals. Merry Christmas!

2013 Pet Pics with Santa!

Come to Munchie’s Coffee House and Barkery Sunday December 1st, Sunday December 8th and Sunday December 15th, 2013 and have your pets (or kids) photos taken with Santa. All proceeds from the events go to Ladybird! Big thanks to Hollyberryshots for donating your time to take the photos and to Munchies for hosting the events, and to the awesome (and truly authentic!) Santa for donating your time to help our animals. See you at Munchies!

Jenny’s babies

One of our rescued rats named Jenny, gave birth to eleven babies on November 22, 2013. She’s a sweet and attentive mom. Jenny’s foster family will be spending lots of time with her and the babies to get them ready for their forever homes when they’re old enough to be away from their mom. We’ll add updates here as the babies grow…

Holiday Pet Portraits at PetValu!

Rat rescue

Someone dumped approximately 50 rats next to an unmanned hydro station in the country on Wednesday. A hydro worker happened to come by to do some work there on Thursday and called Hamilton Animal Control when he discovered them. Their cages were smashed and broken. Some of the rats were dead, likely frozen to death from the cold and wind…others had escaped. Some were climbing a nearby tree or running off into the fields. The animal control officer and the hydro employee worked very hard and spent a lot of time trying to catch every last rat they could find….   read more >>

Our first farm animal rescue!

We rescued our first farm animal today! Meet Claudette! The Oakville Humane Society found her wandering in a residential area of Oakville and took her in. We were happy to rescue her from there and place her in a foster farm where she will have other chickens to be friends with and lots of open space to enjoy. Claudette is rescue #5 in our “30 Rescues by Christmas” campaign. Yay for Claudette! Ladybird’s long term plan is to purchase property just outside of Hamilton so we can build a proper sanctuary to house our animals. We are very much looking…   read more >>

A special rescue today…

Pepper and Petunia (aka Swiffer) were rescued from Hamilton Animal Control today! They are rescues 3 & 4 in our 30 Rescues by Christmas campaign. Petunia is a very special girl because she doesn’t have any back legs…other than some small fleshy stumps. She gets around pretty well though despite her birth defect. We had videographer Jamie Lizmore along today to film their rescue and vet visit. We’ll have some video of these sweet cats to show you soon. Thank you to all who have donated to our 30 Rescues campaign. You have made it possible to rescue animals like…   read more >>
