Greenbelt Harvest Picnic a Success!

Big, big thanks to everyone who stopped by the Ladybird booth yesterday at Greenbelt Harvest Picnic, Christie Lake – Dundas, Ontario. We had a great time chatting with you all. And thank you for all the donations! We raised just over $2000! Woo hoo! There are some special animals waiting to be rescued who will greatly benefit from those donations. And thanks to the folks at Greenbelt Harvest Picnic for having us at your amazing festival. What a great day!

Ladybird Word – August 2013

Beatrice

June Needs a Home! We can’t wait for June to find a loving forever home. She has been through so much in such a short time. Ladybird rescued her from Animal Control after her owner passed away. It was later discovered at the vet that she was riddled with cancerous ovarian cysts. Now after undergoing surgery we are optimistic that this wonderful girl is cancer free. June’s foster mom has nothing but good things to say about this sweetie and we know that she would make a perfect addition to any family. Gertie Finds a Loving Home Sweet Gertie has…   read more >>

An amazing weekend of adoptions

Blue

Pet Valu in Dundas hosted us for another adoption event weekend, and it was a huge success for us! On Saturday, Timmy and Tiffany found their forever home with this lovely family.                   Then on Sunday, Blue the bunny found his forever home!                   Even though she wasn’t part of the adoption event, Beatrice‘s foster mom was kind enough to bring her to Pet Valu to meet some lovely folks who had applied for her. And guess what! They adopted her! We just love…   read more >>

Nine cat rescue day!

Red and Buster

Great big rescue day! We rescued nine cats from Hamilton Animal Control on Tuesday; a pair of adult cats, a mom with three newborn kittens, a pair of kittens and a single kitten. They all saw the vet, and are now settling into their respective foster homes. What a whirlwind of a day! We could certainly use some donations right now to take care of all these new fosters. You can donate here. Happy day!

Cat and bunny photo shoot!

Big thanks to Gosnay Studios for donating your time to take some great photos of some of our adoptable animals! Here is just one shot of Timmy, Tommy and Tiffany, who are waiting to be adopted. And Beatrice the bunny who is also hoping to find a home. More great pics to come. Sometimes a good photo can make the difference a rescued animal needs to find their forever home. Fingers crossed these pics will do it for these sweet kittens! Please visit Gosnay’s website and like them on Facebook.

A brand new baby ‘bird!

We have a new member of the Ladybird family! Ladybird co-founder Janine Stoll gave birth to her first baby yesterday! He doesn’t have a name yet, but he is healthy and happy and super cute. Mom, dad and baby are all doing well. Welcome to the world baby ‘bird!

Thank you!

Last week we were pretty much out of money. A rescue without money can’t rescue. Even with all the foster homes in the world, you can’t rescue animals if you don’t have money for food, supplies and vet care. So we asked for some help…and you answered that call. Thank you to everyone who donated in our time of need. We were able to rescue five cats this week because of your generosity! But that money will soon run out and we will need your help again. Please consider becoming a monthly donor. If we can count on your donation…   read more >>

Gertie’s emergency

Gertie

Gertie had a serious and unexpected seizure on Sunday morning. Her foster mom rushed her to the emergency vet and they were at the clinic all day for tests. Gertie was feeling better by the end of the day and she was able to return to her foster home. The vets couldn’t pinpoint exactly what caused the seizure, so we’re in a “wait and see” mode for now. Gertie is back to her bubbly self, so we’re hopeful that she never has another seizure! Gertie’s emergency vet bill was a hit to our finances. We were running low on funds…   read more >>

Peanut and Parsnip’s rescue day!

Peanut and Parsnip

We rescued the two cutest kittens in the world today. Peanut and Parsnip came into Hamilton Animal Control as strays. They have been at HAC since last month, and we have wanted to rescue them since we first saw them there weeks ago. We finally had a foster home spot open up for them, and we were happy to bust them out of kitty jail! Peanut is quite small for her age and doesn’t seem to be growing at the rate she should be, but she is purry and happy and playful. Parsnip is a happy boy too. These two…   read more >>

Ladybird at Greenbelt Harvest Picnic

On Saturday August 31st, Ladybird will have a booth at the 2013 Greenbelt Harvest Picnic! We had a blast last year, and we’re so happy to be asked back again for this year’s festival. And as an added bonus, Ladybird co-founder Melissa McClelland will be part of the musical line-up with her duo “Whitehorse.” Melissa is on double duty, so come by our little green tent to say hi and show us some love…. Note: Neil Young and Crazy Horse will no longer be performing at this year’s festival. Details here.

A fun weekend at PetValu in Dundas

Big, big thanks to Pet Valu in Dundas for having us in-store for their adoption weekend! Though he didn’t get adopted, Guinness got a load of attention and charmed everyone who stopped to say hello to him. Pet Valu did a great job getting the Ladybird name out there to all their customers, and they gathered lots of food and monetary donations for us too! Thank you so much to all the staff at Pet Valu Dundas! We really appreciate your support!

Gertie’s rescue day

Gertie

We rescued this sweet little Jack Russell Terrier from Hamilton Animal Control yesterday. She found herself at HAC as a stray, but nobody came to claim her. Gertie has a severe allergy to something (likely food) and she has some hair loss and skin issues because of it. She looks a lot better than she did when she first came into HAC, but she has a ways to go. We’re going to start her on a strict diet and have our vets keep a close eye on her condition. Our vets estimate her age at around five years old. It…   read more >>

Sick kittens. Please help!

Tommy

We need your help! We rescued Timmy, Tommy and Tiffany from Hamilton Animal Control today, but unfortunately these sweeties are quite sick. They’re being boarded at our vet for now, but they will need an experienced foster home once we get the go ahead for them to leave the clinic. These kittens have a hard road ahead of them to regain their health and be ready for adoption. Think you could be the one to help them get there? We provide all medical care, food and supplies. You just supply the time, space and love these kitty babies need until…   read more >>

Ladybirds visit Cedar Row Farm Sanctuary

June 2013 Ladybird’s ultimate goal is to have a property where we can house more cats, dogs and small animals, and where we can start rescuing farm animals. Before attaining that goal, we are visiting local sanctuaries to gather as much knowledge as we can and to learn from others who are already doing what we are so looking forward to! Today, Ladybird founders Lisa, Janine and Melissa visited Cedar Row Farm Sanctuary near London, Ontario. Cedar Row has been in existence since 1999, making it one of the oldest farm sanctuaries in Ontario. They have rescued thousands of animals over this…   read more >>

Trying our best

For any animal rescue, this is a crappy time of year. “Kill shelters” are full to the brim with unwanted animals and the euthanasia days become more frequent because there are just too many coming in, and not enough room to keep them all. We are one of several organizations who rescue animals from Hamilton Animal Control, and we’re all trying our hardest to get as many as we can out of there. But it’s never enough. Even with multiple groups working so hard, there are still so many we can’t help…and that sucks. There is much debate about why…   read more >>
