Magnolia

Magnolia

* Magnolia has been adopted! Yay! * In 2020, Magnolia arrived at Hamilton Animal Services as a stray, and she gave birth to five babies the next day. Sadly, one baby passed away suddenly. Nobody came forward to claim Magnolia, and when HAS staff reached out to us for help, we were happy to get Magnolia and her little family out of the stress of the shelter. This lovely girl did a fantastic job raising her babies, Madeline, Marvin, Moby and Morty, and the babies all found their forever homes. Magnolia was also adopted in 2020, but she had to be returned to us in 2023 when…   read more >>

Buddy

Buddy - photo by Luca Simpson

Buddy came into Hamilton Animal Services with another rabbit. Technically they were strays, but it’s more likely they were dumped. Unfortunately, Buddy and the other rabbit (Tyson) got into a squabble that ended with Tyson being injured, so the shelter separated them. When a foster home opened up, we were happy to get Buddy out of the small cage he was in at the shelter, and into a loving foster home where he has much more space. Buddy is doing well in his foster home, and he’s soaking up all the love, attention and tasty snacks his foster family are…   read more >>

Juno

Juno

* Juno has been adopted by wonderful people! Yay! * First rescue of 2023! Juno was left behind in an apartment when her owner was evicted. She ended up at Hamilton Animal Services and was there for three months. Juno charmed all the shelter staff. She’s a lovely kitty, and she has lots to say! Juno has one rib that sticks out at a strange angle. The x-rays taken on Juno’s rescue day showed that the wonky rib is likely from an old injury that healed oddly. The rib doesn’t bother her at all and thankfully it isn’t causing her…   read more >>

Happy

Happy

* Happy found his forever home with a wonderful family! Congrats Happy! * Happy came into Hamilton Animal Services as a stray. No owner came forward to claim him. Happy had a lot of health issues. He was not neutered, his teeth were bad, he had blood in his urine, and to top it off, Happy was heartworm positive. This poor dog had many strikes against him, he ended up on the list to be euthanized. Thankfully, HAS staff had fallen in love with Happy, and they reached out to us for help. A foster family stepped up, and we…   read more >>

Autumn

Autumn

* Autumn has been adopted by a wonderful person, and she has another kitty to be friends with! Yay! * Autumn arrived at Hamilton Animal Services as a stray with an injured leg. The shelter sent Autumn to the vet for xrays. It was initially thought there was a slight fracture, but it was difficult to tell. Autumn was put on pain medication and she waited out her stray time at the shelter. When nobody came forward to claim her, we were happy to get Autumn out of the shelter and to our vet for treatment. By this time, Autumn…   read more >>

Oakville Humane Society was called and the bunnies were transferred to the shelter. OHS was already packed to the brim with rabbits, including a mom and her babies who had been abandoned in the exact same way earlier in the month. They reached out to us for help, and we were able to take four babies into our care. River, Rain, Rutabaga, and Radish are adorable bunnies, and very sweet. The bunnies were given…   read more >>

Penelope

Penelope

We’re heartbroken. What was thought to be a simple surgery to fix an abscess, ended up in a devastating diagnosis. Aside from already being in gastrointestinal stasis over the weekend, Penelope’s pre-surgical exam revealed significant weight loss in the last five days, generalized muscle wasting, and that her dewlap masses had doubled in size and number. A chain of approximately 10 masses extended from between her jaw bones to the right dewlap. Blood tests revealed a very low white blood cell count consistent with sepsis (caused by a severe and potentially life-threatening bacterial infection). Fine needle aspirates were collected from…   read more >>

Puddles

Puddles

Puddles was found as a stray and brought to Hamilton Animal Services. During her time there, staff noticed blood in her cage, so they reached out to us for help. We got Puddles out of the shelter and straight to the vet. An x-ray revealed that Puddles has bladder stones which are hard, stone-like structures usually composed of calcium carbonate which form in the bladder. Puddles was at the vet for a couple of days while she waited for surgery, and during that time, staff noticed a lot of blood in her cage. It was clear that the amount of…   read more >>

Lilly

Lilly

* Lilly found her forever home with amazing people! Woo hoo! * Benny, Chu Chu, and Lilly ended up at Hamilton Animal Services when their owner passed away. When the shelter reached out to us for help, we knew we had to rescue this trio together. They’d been through enough without having to be separated from each other. Thankfully, we had a foster home willing to take in these sweet seniors. A short while after their rescue, the trio’s foster family noticed that Chu Chu was feeling poorly. Despite getting the best vet care we could offer, her health declined…   read more >>

Heidi

Heidi

* After almost a year in foster care, and many surgeries and vet appointments, Heidi has finally been adopted! Yay! * Heidi was rescued from Hamilton Animal Services. She had arrived there as a stray and was not claimed. We were happy to get Heidi out of the shelter and into a foster home when one became available. Heidi is a lovely girl! She’s very friendly sweet. At her vet appointment, it was discovered that Heidi’s big belly wasn’t being caused by her being overweight. It’s being caused by pyometra. Pyometra is a very serious infection of the uterus, and it…   read more >>

Rossa

Rossa

* In September 2022, we had to say goodbye to our sweet Rossa. Her many health conditions caught up with her and it she told us it was her time to go. Though she was a challenge to care for because of her health issues, Rossa’s foster family loved her deeply and they’re very sad about her passing. Our hearts go out to them, and to Rossa’s “brother” Bobby, who will definitely be missing her. Rest in peace, sweet Rossa. We’ll never forget your sweet face. *   Rossa and Bobby were rescued from Hamilton Animal Services after they were found…   read more >>

Peeper

Peeper

* Peeper found her forever home with lovely people! Woo hoo! * Peeper arrived at Hamilton Animal Services as a stray and was not claimed. We were happy to get Peeper out of the shelter and into the safety of a foster home. Peeper had a vet visit, and she was given a clean bill of health. She’s now ready to find her forever home! We aren’t 100% sure of Peeper’s gender, but we’re pretty sure she’s a female as she hasn’t done any singing since coming into our care. Though she does peep a lot! 🙂 Peeper is a…   read more >>

Merlin

Merlin

* Heartbreaking news. Little Merlin has passed away. He developed severe diarrhea overnight, and became lethargic in the morning. His foster mom rushed him to the vet, and despite the vet and staff’s best efforts, sweet Merlin passed away at the clinic. We’re waiting for test results to come back to see what caused Merlin’s passing, and we’re shocked at how quickly this happened. Our hearts are breaking for Merlin’s foster mom. She’s devastated. And we’re so sad for Marvin. He loved his brother so much. Foster mom is giving Marvin all kinds of extra love to help him through….   read more >>

Acorn

Acorn

* Acorn found his forever home with amazing people! Yippee! * Acorn was found as a stray and brought to Hamilton Animal Services. He was in rough shape when he arrived, and wasn’t happy with human attention at all.  During his time at HAS, staff did their best to make him feel comfortable and safe, to help calm his fears. After a few weeks, he was much less bitey and he allowed them to handle and pet him. When a foster home opened up, we were happy to get Acorn out of the stress of shelter life. We had him…   read more >>
