Veggie Fest 2013
ABOUT VEGGIE VEST Hours Veggie Fest will be open to the public from 11am-7pm. Please check the Event Schedule for more details about the activities going on throughout the day! How Veggie Fest Hamilton Came To Be The idea of Veggie Fest Hamilton came to Monica La Vella after attending Raw Stock in Niagara on the Lake and the Toronto Vegetarian Festival in 2012. At the time, Monica, her young children and (mostly) her husband had been vegetarian for 1.5 years. After visiting both of these events, Monica wanted to bring the same ideas, support and resources to Hamilton. With… read more >>
Remembering Shadow
Shadow was an awesome pup. 90lbs of goof and incredibly gentle. He put up with the constant stream of foster kittens, teaching them that some big dogs are loveable lugs looking for their next cuddle. He sang too!! We will miss him. Everybody loved this gentle giant… A donation was made by Lisa Winn and Andrew Aldridge in memory of Shadow.
HAPPY DAY!
TEDDY WAS ADOPTED TODAY!!!!!! Woo hooooo!!!! Here he is with his new “mom”. Teddy totally hit the jackpot as far as forever homes go. He’s already being pampered and loved up, just the way his sweet soul deserves. Thanks to everyone who sent their love and encouragement to Teddy while we’ve had him all these months. Thanks to CP24 Animal House Calls for featuring Teddy on your show. And huge thanks to Teddy’s new mom for adopting him. We know you’ll give Teddy the best care and boat loads of love for the rest of his days. Congrats Teddy! We’ll… read more >>
Abandoned Bunnies
Please help! We’re searching for foster, or adoptive homes for four Lionhead rabbits who were abandoned in a park in Hamilton. They’re currently at Hamilton Animal Control. Eight were originally found, four have already been rescued, but these four remain in need of rescue. If you can foster one or more of these bunnies, please fill out a foster application here.
Teddy is a superstar!
Teddy is a superstar! Ladybird co-founder Lisa Winn spoke to Ann Rohmer on the CP24 show “Animal House Calls” yesterday! We brought Teddy as the featured animal and he was a doll on camera. We’re hopeful that Teddy will finally find his forever home now that he’s a TV star. Click here to watch! Thanks for having us on the show Ann and the folks at CP24! We had fun.
R.I.P. Alex
Sad news this morning. Alex, one of Annie’s kittens, has passed away. He just couldn’t fight off the upper respiratory virus he had when we rescued him and his family. Big thanks to our vet, and to Alex’s foster home for doing all you could for him. Thankfully, the other kittens are doing much better than they were. This photo was taken the day we rescued them from Hamilton Animal Control. Other than Ashton (the orange tabby) still having some eye issues, mom and babies are eating well, playing and getting healthier by the day. Donations to Annie and her… read more >>

Three days…three different rescues
Wednesday we rescued Elvira. Pretty kitty Elvira was found as a stray and found herself at Hamilton Animal Control, but no owner came for her. We’ll find her a lovely home with someone who will keep her indoors and love her forever! She’ll be available for adoption very soon… Thursday we rescued Rocky. This big old rat was brought in to Hamilton Animal Control with several other rats, most of whom were rescued by another organization. He needs a little TLC and time to recover from his ordeal of his past home life, and being… read more >>
Helping Wildlife
A Contribution from Ladybird co-founder Janine Stoll Last weekend my husband and I discovered a wee, baby raccoon in the middle of the busy country side road in front of our house. Crying and seemingly abandoned, we brought him over to our lot to keep him away from the road. As the day wore on we watched him closely and tried to keep him safe from passing cars. When night came our best option was to leave him in a box without a lid with a blanket in the hopes that the mother would hear his cries and return to… read more >>
Bo’s not-so-great long weekend
Hope everyone had a great long weekend! Poor Bo didn’t! He ended up spending the entire weekend at the vet. His foster home discovered on Friday that he wasn’t feeling well and hadn’t been eating. Once at the vet, it was discovered that he was dehydrated, had a fever, and a blood test showed a high white blood cell count. They kept him on fluids and medication for the weekend, and he was finally able to go back to his foster home on Tuesday morning. Turns out he had an old abscess that likely opened up internally and caused a… read more >>
Webber says thank you!
Thanks to your generous donations and to several people who offered to open their homes to foster, we were able to rescue Webber yesterday! It took us some time to find a foster home that suited his special needs, but we were successful and so grateful. Webber had a quick vet appointment and was then delivered to his foster home yesterday afternoon. He’s already made himself right at home and has started his weight loss journey. Donate to Ladybird Animal Sanctuary today to help us continue to be able to rescue animals like Webber. We can’t do this without you!
Help us save Webber!
We need your help! This is Webber, and he was left at Hamilton Animal Control after his owner was hospitalized. Webber is a little overweight…well, a lot overweight. But he’s such a sweetie! We desperately want to get Webber out of Animal Control, but we need a foster or adoptive home for him to go to! Webber would do best in a home where there aren’t too many stairs as his weight causes him some trouble in that department. He’d need someone who is willing to keep him on a strict diet and exercise routine. But mostly, Webber needs someone… read more >>
Fostering Lani and Lucas
A contribution from our foster parent Jenna One month ago I was honoured with the privilege of becoming a foster parent for Ladybird. On March 22nd I opened my home (and of course heart) to two sweet dogs, Lucas and Lani. If it weren’t for Ladybird rescuing these two affectionate dogs, they would have been separated and sent to live in different homes. It became very evident right away that separating Lucas and Lani was simply not an option. Lucas and Lani’s adorable personalities quickly began to shine, and every minute I was with them was brighter and happier. Ladybird… read more >>
Ladybird Celebrates 150 Rescues!
Today Ladybird celebrates having rescued over 150 animals since our humble beginnings back in January 2011. Here’s to the next 150 rescues! We’ve got exciting plans and big goals for the coming years and look forward to sharing in these great adventures with you. Thank you all for being part of Team Ladybird!
Gizmo update
Gizmo finally went home from the vet today! After being admitted a week ago because of a hypoglycemic episode, Gizmo spent last weekend at the emergency vet clinic and another 6 days at our vet clinic trying to regulate her blood sugar levels. She finally balanced out and went back to her foster home today! Thank you for all your well wishes and donations. We couldn’t have provided Gizmo the help she so desperately needed if it wasn’t for you! Welcome home Gizmo! This won’t be the last time Ladybird faces an emergency like this one. Donate today and help… read more >>
Gizmo’s emergency
We need your help! Our diabetic girl Gizmo had an episode of hypoglycemia this morning. Her foster mom rushed Gizmo to the vet where she was stabilized with treatment. She wasn’t well enough to go home by the time the clinic closed for the day, and this afternoon Gizmo had to be transfered to the emergency vet clinic. She is holding her own at the moment, and thankfully she is looking much better than she was this morning…but she’s not out of the woods yet. Please send Gizmo your positive thoughts for a quick recovery. We’ll pass on the message… read more >>
