Crazy Cat Lady in Training
A contribution from Ladybird co-founder, Melissa McClelland Ok, I admit it.. I’m a ‘dog’ person. I grew up with three doggies; each with their own wonderful and individual personality, they brightly colored my childhood years. My only vivid memory of a cat was during a visit to my parent’s friends house. They owned a beautiful, fluffy grey cat, and as a seven-year-old, I was determined to make this feline my best friend. The whole encounter ended in a standoff; me reaching for Kitty under a bed in some dark, upstairs guest room. Sadly, my proposition of friendship was answered with… read more >>
Be Our Valentine!
Benjamin wanted to wish you a Happy Valentine’s day from his new forever home! He’s settled in there now and enjoying being spoiled by his new ‘mom’. He even has a kitty friend to snuggle up with! Click here for Benjamin’s “Success Stories” page. We’re so happy he’s spending Valentine’s day in his forever home! Craig‘s “brother” Jarrod was just adopted on Tuesday, so he’s spending his Valentines day alone. His foster mom is giving him extra love today, but he would love to go to a new forever home where he could be friends with another cat. This sweet… read more >>
What a weekend!

Wish all weekends were as awesome as this one! P.S. don’t forget to vote for Ladybird in the Animal Rescue Site Shelter Challenge! You can vote every day until April 28th, 2013.
Tuesday’s rescue and surgery
Meet Tuesday! She’s a lovely tortoiseshell kitty who was found as a stray and brought into Hamilton Animal Control. She had a puncture wound in the back of one leg, and was sent to a vet. She was given the maximum vet treatment that HAC allows for (which isn’t much), then sent back to the shelter. Because of her sweet personality, Tuesday became one of the lucky ones at HAC, and was moved to a separate area in the shelter reserved for cats that are “staff favourites”….which meant her life would be spared from euthanasia after the mandatory 72 hour stray time that animals… read more >>
Blossom Update
Little Blossom had her spay and leg surgery today. Our vets did their best trying a specific surgery that might have let her have proper use of her deformed leg, but it just wasn’t to be…and in the end, Blossom had to have her leg removed. She came through the surgery just fine, and we’ll keep you updated on when she’ll be available for adoption. So this means we are now the proud care takers of two tripod cats!
Long awaited Dixie Update!
A long awaited update on Dixie! She had her leg removal and spay surgery last Tuesday. Everything went wonderfully, and her foster home has been taking great care of her. She’s already getting around and playing like nothing happened. Don’t think she has even noticed that she only has three legs now! Thanks so much to everyone who donated towards Dixie’s surgery. We’ll have more photos and video to show you soon!
January’s rescue
Meet January. She was found as a stray and brought to Hamilton Animal Control. We rescued her from there and she spent two days at the vet because she was in such rough shape. January has been neglected and malnourished for quite some time. She is painfully thin, matted and very dirty. She has some minor issues that the vet prescribed medication for, and she now has a safe and warm foster home where she can regain her health. It will be a long road for January, but because of folks like you who support what we do, we were able… read more >>
Good things…
Our lovely lady Penny was adopted today. We are so happy that after everything she has been through that she has found a forever home . She’ll have a beautiful space to call her own where she will be safe from harm and will never have to go through pain and trauma again. Congrats on your new home Penny! We rescued these two lovelies from Hamilton Animal Control yesterday! Molly and Ruby were spayed this morning and they’re now busy checking out the new surroundings in their foster homes. They will both be available for adoption soon… Lastly for today…we… read more >>

Teddy’s rescue day!
We rescued Teddy today! This sweet old boy found himself at Hamilton Animal Control as a stray. He’s probably around 12 years old, has rotten teeth, a heart murmur, his ears were packed with dirt, his nails were so long that they curled under his pads, and he was in desperate need of a grooming (i.e. he had a lot of matting and a poopy bum!) But he saw the vet and groomer today and now he’s safe and warm in his foster home, on his way to feeling better! Thanks to everyone who has supported us this year…. read more >>

Ladybirds visit Alaqua Animal Refuge!
December 2012 By Melissa McClelland A great collective talent of the Ladybird gals is to somehow maintain focus and work ethic when three margaritas into the evening. Ok, we do waver a bit, but our girl getaways of yesteryear have evolved into something quite different for us three best friends. Now that we’re running an animal rescue group, our long lunches have turned into brainstorming sessions; our gossiping over the phone has turned into Skype meetings, and any hope of a tan… well, I never had any hope of a tan! That’s not to say that we don’t find plenty… read more >>

Thank you!
Thank you to everyone who donated towards Dixie’s surgery. We have reached our goal! You guys are the best! Now…we need your help for another surgery; Penny’s dental work. We thought Penny’s eye would have to be removed due to the injury it had sustained, but our vets were able to save it and her eye has healed nicely. They discovered though, that whatever damaged her eye, also knocked out one of her K9 teeth right at the gum line, and the tooth is now infected. So Penny has a surgery tomorrow to remove the tooth. You can donate to… read more >>
Tabitha’s recovery
After many vet visits, medications and force feeding, Tabitha is finally feeling better after her ordeal with being sick and losing her kittens. Tabitha’s foster home did an amazing job nursing her back to health, and it shows! She’s eating well, her fur is shiny and soft, and she’s come out of her shell to show her super friendly personality! Tabitha will be spayed in the next couple of weeks and then she will be available for adoption. She certainly deserves a forever home after all she’s been through. Big thanks to Tabitha’s foster moms for all their time and effort!… read more >>
