Sick Little Bean – We need your help!

We need your help! Our sweet Little Bean became very ill yesterday and spent the night at the emergency vet clinic. He was so sick the vets weren’t sure if he would make it through the night. Miraculously, he pulled through and we picked him up this morning and transferred him to one of our regular vets where he is now being treated. The vets are not sure what caused his sudden decline in health, but they’re doing all they can to make him feel better. We’re so glad he made it, and we’re keeping all our fingers and toes…   read more >>

Roscoe’s Rescue Day

We rescued Roscoe today! He’s pretty sick with an upper respiratory virus that he contracted at Hamilton Animal Control during his stay there…but we got him out of that shelter, got him vet care and placed him in a foster home where he can start his recovery. Roscoe will be searching for his forever home when he’s feeling better. Even though he’s feeling under the weather, he’s still a purry snuggle bug sweetheart!

THANKFUL

On Friday we rescued these two cuties… They’ll be available for adoption soon.                 Today, three cats were adopted! Jasmine and Faith went to their forever home together! We’re so happy they will spend their lives in each others company.                 And, Jenna went to a wonderful home where she will have two other cats to be friends with… Yay Jenna! We Ladybirds have a lot to be thankful for this weekend. We wish you all a wonderful Thanksgiving with your loved ones!

Little Bean’s big adventure

We rescued this little bean yesterday…and that will be his name! Little Bean came into Hamilton Animal Control as a stray, with no siblings and no mom. He’s only about three weeks old. He was in a big metal cage, shaking and crying all by himself, and we just couldn’t leave him there like that. Little Bean is now safe and warm in his foster home. We’ll keep you updated on this little cutie! p.s. thank you Kori Pop for the inspiration behind Little Bean’s name

A & E MUSIC | Birds of a Feather

The Ladybird Animal Sanctuary’s resident rebels with a furry, and fantastic, cause – BY David McPherson, Hamilton Magazine On average, Hamilton Animal Services euthanizes approximately 3,000 cats and 300 dogs annually. Unlike Oliver Twist, Dickens’ classic orphan boy— who had the gall to ask for more—all Oliver the cat could do was plea for help with sad, emerald eyes. Enter Lisa Winn. The Hamilton singer heeded the cat’s call. You see, Oliver has Feline Leukemia, a contagious disease, and a local shelter was set to euthanize him until Winn stepped in. The animal’s plight tugged at her heart. Later, Oliver’s…   read more >>

Remembering Mama

A contribution from Ladybird supporter. This was Mama (with her daughter “Baby” in the background). She was an incredibly loving, funny and special cat. Her life was taken too soon due to a little-known vaccine associated cancer. Please take a moment to read the information below and perhaps your cat can be saved. Vaccine associated sarcoma, or VAS, is a cancer caused by a certain kind of rabies vaccine. This vaccine contains an aluminium additive and is classified as a Killed Virus or KV vaccine. This KV additive has been linked to VAS in cats, up to 1% of cats…   read more >>

Levon’s Story

My name is Levon and I am a dog. I was so named in honour of the great musician, Levon Helm. Ladybird Animal Sanctuary rescued me from a very dark place in my life. After many medical interventions, from which I am feeling much better, I moved in with a foster family. They were awesome! A bunch of canine companions, new feline friends a great set of humans! What more could a dog ask for? Well, it was clear that I needed a more permanent home. Luckily for me, Lisa, one of my favourite human friends, is very perceptive. She…   read more >>

Happy Canada Day from Ben and Jerry!

Adoption news!

Iggy has been adopted! Look how great he looks now! Big thanks to our vet and to Iggy’s foster home for taking such good care of him. And thanks to everyone who donated to us. You all made his amazing recovery possible!

No more hissing!

Blue

Kitten rescue day part two” video. Didn’t take long for the hissy little girl to realize that people aren’t out to hurt her, and she is enjoying the company of her human caretakers without all the hissing! The other three were snuggly and sweet pretty much right away. A couple of these guys are potentially adopted, but please fill out an adoption application if you would like to make a sweet kitten your forever friend!

Mom and babies video

Here’s mom with her seven babies. Thanks to the Village Cat Clinic for looking after these sweethearts for us!

Just because they’re so cute…

Just a cute video of two foster kittens playing. We rescued them on May 28, 2012 from a high-kill shelter and they will be available for adoption soon…

More rescuing!

Sorry it’s not the best photo, but it was hard to fit them all in! We rescued this sweet mom and her seven super cute babies yesterday. Big thanks to The Cat Clinic for helping us out with these guys. When the kittens are weened, and everyone is healthy enough, they will be available for adoption… We’ll keep you updated!

Kitten Rescue Day (part two)

Here are the other four kittens we rescued on May 28th. These guys will be a bit of a challenge for their foster home, but they’ll come around with love and patience. Check back soon for info on when they will be available for adoption…
