We rescued this sweet little Jack Russell Terrier from Hamilton Animal Control yesterday. She found herself at HAC as a stray, but nobody came to claim her. Gertie has a severe allergy to something (likely food) and she has some hair loss and skin issues because of it. She looks a lot better than she did when she first came into HAC, but she has a ways to go. We’re going to start her on a strict diet and have our vets keep a close eye on her condition. Our vets estimate her age at around five years old.
It seems that at some point someone really cared for Gertie because she is housetrained and she walks well on a leash…but is also seems like she has had many, many litters. (boo!)
Gertie was spayed today and will be traveling to her foster home when she’s ready to leave the vet clinic. We’re going to give her some time to heal from her surgery and get her skin in tip top shape before making her available for adoption.
We’ll keep you updated on how she’s doing. We here at Ladybird are totally in love with this little dog. She’ll be a wonderful companion for someone when her time comes.
We were able to rescue Gertie and get her the vet care she needs because of our generous donors. Donate today to help us rescue more animals like Gertie. We can only do this with your help! You can make a one time donation, or become a monthly donor which will help us help animals all year long! Visit this page to donate, or click the Canada Helps button on the right.
