* Rest in peace sweet Barney. We will never forget you. *

After months of vet visits, medication and lots of love from his foster family, Barney was finally healthy enough to have his dental surgery. He had the surgery and three very rotten teeth were removed. He seemed to be doing well after the surgery, but the next day, he started to decline. The clinic told us he wasn’t eating and he was lethargic. Over the next few days, they force fed him, did tests and gave him medications to try to figure out what was going on, but nothing helped. Despite all their efforts, Barney passed away at the clinic three days after his surgery.
We’re devastated. Barney was a very loved cat, especially by his foster family. Our hearts go out to them, and to everyone who sent well wishes and love to Barney throughout his journey.
Certainly not the happy ending we had all hoped for for this sweet cat, but we take comfort that he had love and health for the months he was with us.

Barney is our 1000th rescue! Woo hoo!

We rescued Barney from Hamilton Animal Services. Barney arrived at HAS as a stray, but he was never claimed.
This cat is sweetness personified. Never stops purring, always has happy feet going, and will gladly head bonk you for as long as you’ll allow him. What a doll.
Being a senior declawed cat, he has some muscle wasting on his back end, and he gets around a little slowly. His mouth is a mess and he definitely needs dental surgery.
We got Barney into the vet for a check-up, blood work and a urine test. Blood tests showed that he may be at the beginning stages of kidney disease, but his results were otherwise normal. Urine tests showed that he has a urinary infection, so he’s was put on medication. A few trips to the vet later, and Barney is finally healthy enough for dental surgery, which is coming up soon.
For now, this super duper friendly kitty has made himself comfortable in at his foster home and he’s charming everyone he meets with his sweetness.
