Nadya
* Nadya and Tortellini have been adopted by a wonderful family! Yay! *
Nadya was part of a large group of rats who ended up at Brampton Animal Services when their owner passed away. On October 26th, Nadya gave birth to nine babies in the shelter; Cannelloni, Penne, Tortellini, Fettuccine, Lasagna, Macaroni, Ravioli, Spaghetti, and Linguine When a spot opened up, we were able to get Nadya and her babies out of the shelter and into a foster home. Despite having an infection from a leg fracture that happened before she came into our care, Nadya did a great job raising her babies. They’ve all found their forever homes except for Tortellini, whom we kept in our care so Nadya could have company.
Unfortunately, Nadya’s leg didn’t heal with the cage rest and medication she was prescribed. Next step was surgery (see photos below). After a couple of weeks of healing, the incision still hadn’t healed, so Nadya had to go in for a second surgery. We had our fingers and toes crossed that this one would work, because the next step would have been amputating the leg. 🙁
Though the wound is still not perfectly closed over and the fur grown back, it’s healed as well as it is going to be, so no amputation! Yay! The vet gave the go ahead that Nadya is finally ready to find her forever home! Thank you Dr. Stubbs and staff at Spencer Creek Animal Hospital for taking such great care of Nadya!
Nadya is a curious little girl. She comes right over when you open her cage door, and she’ll bound back and forth to see if you have any treats to offer. Tortellini is more shy, and is normally found in all the good hiding spots in her cage. They both tolerate being handled, but do not enjoy it much. A patient, experienced rat person would be best for Nadya and Tortellini.

Ladybird recommends Critter Nation cages. They are hands down the most spacious, and best quality enclosure for small animals on the market. They come in single and double sizes, and can be modified and customized to create enrichment and provide comfort. Their design and solid manufacturing almost entirely eliminates the possibility of accidental escape. Critter Nation cages are available (or can be ordered) at most local pet supply stores.
Can’t adopt but want to help?
