Scratchy
We’re sad to report that Scratchy passed away suddenly in his foster home. We’re not sure what happened, but his foster family came home to find him passed in his cage. Our hearts are broken for his foster family, and his brother Itchy, who is certainly missing his companion.
Rest in peace, Scratchy. We’ll never forget your sweet face.
Windsor Humane Society reached out for help when they received an overwhelming number of guinea pigs. We were happy to assist and we took in Itchy and Scratchy. They were surrendered to the shelter because their owner no longer wanted them. These two boys are super cute, but they’re extremely shy. Doesn’t seem like Itchy and Scratchy were handled much in their previous home, but their foster family are doing their best to help them be more comfortable around people.
Itchy and Scratchy would not be the best pair of pigs for a home with children.
Thank you Dr. Fleming and staff at Guelph Animal Hospital for being the stop over for the pigs’ transport to us. And for giving Itchy and Scratchy their health checks! And thank you to the volunteer driver who delivered the pigs from Windsor all the way to Guelph!

Guinea pigs need much more room than the typical pet store guinea pig cages offer. Here are some websites that have great examples of the type of cages pigs can live happily in, so that they have lots of room to move around and explore:
