Peanut Butter
January 26th, 2020
We are devastated to bring you this news.
We had to let our sweet Peanut Butter go.
Yesterday, we picked her up from OVC and she went back to her foster home. Shortly before she left the clinic, the vet gave her a shot of slow release pain meds, and they sent her home with more pain medication to try to keep her comfortable. Throughout the night, it was obvious the medications weren’t working. Peanut Butter didn’t want to stand or be picked up, and any movement made her yelp out in pain. She was urinating and defecating on herself, and was extremely stressed.
Foster mom took Peanut Butter back to the emergency clinic, and the heartbreaking decision was make to end her suffering. She was telling us it was time, and there was nothing anyone could do to make her pain go away.
Our hearts go out to Peanut Butter’s foster mom and all those who loved and cared for her. We want to thank everyone who donated towards her medical treatment, and who sent their love and well wishes.
Rest in peace, little Peanut Butter. You were so loved.
Peanut Butter came into Hamilton Animal Services as a stray. She was not putting weight on her back leg, and xrays showed a hairline fracture there. It’s not a fracture that requires surgery or any treatment. It was so slight, the vet advised that it will heal with time. PB was put on pain meds and she waited out her stray time at the shelter. As well as the fracture, Peanut Butter has severe dental disease. Her mouth is painful to the touch and she will need several extractions. To add to her issues, this little girl is covered in scabs and flaky skin from head to toe. Despite all this, Peanut Butter is sweet and friendly and doesn’t seem to let anything bother her (except if you try to touch her mouth).
By the time she left the shelter on her rescue day, PB was putting weight on the leg, and there was no noticeable limp. She happily rode in the car to the vet and greeted everyone she met with a wagging tail. Such a lovely girl!
The vet thinks the scabby skin may be a food issue, so Peanut Butter has been started on a special food, as well as antibiotics for her mouth, and medication for her infected ears. Once the medications are done, she will hopefully be healthy enough to have her dental surgery and to be spayed.
Peanut Butter has a bit of a medical journey ahead of her before she’ll be ready to find her forever home, but we’re here to help her every step of the way.
Welcome to Ladybird, Peanut Butter! We love you already!
Thank you Spencer Creek Animal Hospital for being awesome with our wee PB.
* January 3 Update *
Peanut Butter has been doing great in her foster home. She’s been taking her meds like a champ, and her dental surgery is booked for next week. Her fur/skin issue is still ongoing, but it’s definitely better than it was when she first arrived.
Please send your love and well wishes to this sweet little one for her surgery and recovery.
Go Peanut Butter! You got this!
