Niblet
We’re sad to report that wee Niblet passed away suddenly. Despite vet visits and medication, he couldn’t shake the respiratory infection that had been troubling him since his arrival, but there was clearly something more going on we didn’t know about that his little body just couldn’t handle. We’re heartbroken to lose such a young baby, whose life was truly just starting.
Our condolences go out to Niblet’s foster family.
Rest in peace sweet Niblet. We’ll never forget you.
Lincoln County Humane Society contacted us when they received a stray baby rat with injuries to his foot and tail. Poor Niblet’s back foot was bloody and quite swollen, and his tail had a large scab on it. We’ll never know what happened to him, but we’re glad we were able to help this little guy. After picking Niblet up from the shelter, we took him to the vet. On top of the injuries, Niblet has a pretty serious respiratory infection. Quite a lot for a wee baby rat to go through in the short time he’s been on earth!
The vet prescribed three different medications, and Niblet is now settling in at his foster home. We’re hopeful that the medications will do their job and that Niblet will feel better soon. He is a friendly and curious ratty and he certainly doesn’t mind being handled. He’ll make a lovely companion for someone when he’s ready!
Welcome to Ladybird, Niblet! We’re so happy you’re here!

Ladybird recommends Critter Nation cages. They are hands down the most spacious, and best quality enclosure for small animals on the market. They come in single and double sizes, and can be modified and customized to create enrichment and provide comfort. Their design and solid manufacturing almost entirely eliminates the possibility of accidental escape. Critter Nation cages are available (or can be ordered) at most local pet supply stores.
