Moira
* Moira has been adopted by a wonderful person! Yay! Congrats Moira! *
Moira arrived at Hamilton Animal Services as a stray. No owner came forward to claim her, despite being at the shelter for an extended period. She had a big belly, and a mass on her abdomen that the shelter thought may be a mammary tumour.
We got Moira out of the shelter and into a foster home. She is a total love bug! Happy and purring and head bonking everyone she meets.
At her vet visit, Dr. O’Brien at Village Cat Clinic expressed concern about Moira’s condition, and the tumour on Moira’s abdomen. We’re so thankful Dr. O’Brien was able to get Moira in for surgery quickly, because aside from the large mass that needed to be removed, Moira’s big belly was being caused by pyometra. Pyometra is a very serious infection of the uterus, and it can sometimes be life threatening. It can also be very painful, and Moira had been suffering with this condition for quite some time.
Dr. Camilleri performed the spay and mass removal surgery, and unfortunately, pathology results showed that the mass was cancerous. Next step was a full mastectomy to try to remove any of the cancerous cells that may have traveled outside of the mass. Her later re-check appointments, showed that she was cancer free! Yay! Last step was much needed dental surgery, which went well. After clearing up a bit of infection after her dental surgery, Moira is finally been given the go-ahead by our vets and she’s ready to find her forever home!
Thank you to Dr. O’Brien and Dr. Camilleri and staff at Village Cat Clinic for taking such great care of Moira.
Here’s a note from Moira’s foster mom:
“Moira is the sweetest thing. Within 5 minutes of coming home she was purring up a storm, despite likely being in pain. She’s had enough health issues for multiple cats! – first a pyometra that resulted in her infection-filled uterus being removed, and then a malignant carcinoma, that resulted in a radical mastectomy, and then finally almost all her teeth have been removed. But she’s been a real trooper and healed great from all those big surgeries and now has a clean bill of health. She must not have been feeling 100% but you wouldn’t know it from the way she’d curl up in her favourite spot on my lap every evening. She knows what she wants; if she thinks you aren’t giving her enough attention or scritches, she will reach out and gently poke you with her paw.
I think Moira might be most comfortable in a home where she can be the star of the show; I have two other cats and they mostly tolerate each other, but there has been a lot of swiping. I don’t think she’d be lonely if she were alone, because most of her days are lazily spent napping either on the couch or my lap. In fact, as I type this Moira is currently sitting napping on my lap in our usual routine. If you’re looking for a precious bébé who loves to keep your lap warm and purr up a storm, Moira is the cat for you! ”
