Mrs. Garrett
* Mrs. Garrett found her forever home with awesome people and another senior ferret to be friends with! Yippee! *
Mrs. Garrett the ferret came into a Quebec shelter as a stray. This poor little girl was a mess. She’s mostly blind due to cataracts, she had a bad skin infection, and she was a bit wobbly on her feet. The folks at One Last Chance reached out to us for help, and we were happy to take Mrs. Garrett in. Big thank you to One Last Chance, and the volunteers at Freedom Drivers for getting Mrs. Garrett to us safely all the way from Quebec.
Mrs. Garrett is being fostered by small animal specialist vet, Dr. Stubbs, from Spencer Creek Animal Hospital, so we know she’s receiving the best care possible. During her initial exam, it was discovered that Mrs. Garrett has arthritis that is causing weakness in her back end. Bloodwork revealed that Mrs. Garrett is suffering from insulinoma, which is a tumour of the pancreas. She had an ultrasound to confirm this. She’s now on medication for the pancreas issue, and she’ll need to be on this medication long term.
Mrs. Garrett is loving life in her foster home. Her sight impairment doesn’t slow her down too much, and she’s getting lots of love from her foster family.
Here’s a note from Dr. Stubbs:
“Mrs. Garrett is a very sweet senior ferret that would make a lovely addition to any experienced ferret home. As a senior she comes with a few special needs and care. Mrs. Garrett has cataracts in both eyes so is almost completely blind. Even though her vision is minimal she loves to explore her surroundings and loves her supervised outings outside to play in the leaves and grass. Due to her gentle nature she has never tried to bite and is happy to share her space with other gentle animal friends. Mrs. Garrett unfortunately has an early grade insulinoma which is a tumour of her pancreas and requires daily medication to slow its growth and reduce the side effects of the tumour. On the bright side she loves getting the medication and it is very easy to give.
Due to her age Mrs. Garrett is looking for a special family to care for her during her twilight time. It is hard to tell how long that will be, but for now she is a sweet little girl who is still full of life.”
We’d like to send a big thank you to Dr. Stubbs for not just fostering Mrs. Garrett, but for donating all of her medical costs. What an amazing donation!
