Sparrow
* Sparrow found his forever home with a wonderful person! *
Sparrow came into Hamilton Animal Services as a stray. This poor boy was covered in fleas, he had a severe infestation of ear mites, and he was suffering from an upper respiratory infection. He also has a slight head tilt that may be due to the ear mites. Shelter staff treated him for the fleas and mites, and they put him on medication for his congestion and runny nose. Two full rounds of medication later, Sparrow was still showing signs of the respiratory infection, and his head was still tilted. No good!
When a foster home opened up, we were more than happy to get this sweet boy out of the shelter and right to the vet. He started another round of different medications for the congestion, and drops for his ears, since they were still full of gunk. He SNAP tested negative for FIV, and we did a more comprehensive blood test that showed he is indeed clear of FIV and FeLV. Yay! And his blood test also showed no other health issues.
Sparrow is just the friendliest guy. He purred through his whole rescue and vet visit, and he made fast friends with everyone he met that day. Nobody could resist those smooshy cheeks!
After a couple of weeks in his foster home, the congestion and sneezing cleared up, and he was finally healthy enough for his neuter surgery. He healed up perfectly from that, he can now start the search for his forever home.
Here’s a note from his foster home:
“Sparrow is a sweet, affectionate and gentle kitty. He loves rolling around for pets, purring and playing. He has a tiny squeak of a mieow which is kind of funny coming from a big kitty like him. He was pretty timid when he first came to us and would slink around but he soon came out of his shell and comes out for pets and tummy rubs. He absolutely loves being around people and is just a sweet, sweet guy. He still has a bit of a head tilt but he doesn’t mind it. The vet says it will be permanent, but not an issue for him. His ears were bothering him when he first came to us and the vet recommended we put him on a non-chicken diet (he said the ears could be an allergy issue) so we have been feeding him fish based wet and dry food, probably best to stick with that. He will make someone a lovely kitty companion!”
