Bucky
*Bucky found his forever home with amazing people! Yippee!
Bucky and Rajah ended up at Hamilton Animal Services when their owner passed away. We were lucky enough to have a foster home available for these two, and we got them out of the shelter and into the vet first thing.
Because of Rajah’s advanced age and multiple health issues, he has been made a permanent resident – meaning, he’ll stay in our care until his quality of life allows. Though they were friendly toward each other, Rajah and Bucky were not closely bonded, so we’re able to make Bucky available for adoption on his own.
We had Bucky neutered, and he had dental cleaning and had one tooth extracted. He healed up perfectly from his surgery, and he’s now ready to find his forever home!
Bucky has a lot of energy, and will need a home where he will get several walks a day and a lot of play time. He will sometimes express his frustration by nipping, so a home with no children, or children over twelve would be best for him. Though he is mostly well behaved, Bucky would benefit from professional training to help him learn that nipping is not the way to show his displeasure.
Here’s a note from Bucky’s foster home:
– He’s the sweetest boy, loves cuddling
– Animal Services had estimated he was about 8 years old but the vet said that based on his energy level, teeth in great condition and overall health he appears to be about 4-5 years old.
– Super well behaved, goes to the door when he needs let out. Knows his name and listens to direction and discipline
– Very attached. Will follow you around everywhere, even lies on the bathmat while you shower.
– Barks sometimes when he hears noises outside, and barks at dogs and some people when he’s on walks, typically men
– Doesn’t seem to bark when I leave the house, and is always at the door with a wagging tail and a toy to greet me.
– Has a tendency to eat napkins he finds on the sidewalk, or big bits of food he finds. Has a very strong jaw and it is very hard to get things out, growls and nips but does not seem malicious
– Would not eat food when I put the medications in it, so instead would give him pills with peanut butter
– While recovering from surgery it was hard to get him to eat, but would eat out of my hand.
– Deathly afraid of the vacuum
– From the first night, hopped right into bed with me and my other pup. Clearly used to sleeping in the human bed. Likes to be as close to me as possible.
– Is obsessed with squeaky toys, literally wants to play catch and tug of war 24/7. Lots of energy.
– Needs several walks a day, or a yard where he can run around.
– Has been great with other dogs, and most people. Just wants attention and someone to play with
– He seems to be very sensitive – tends to nip at me when I try to brush his tummy or legs, or clean his feet after being outside.
– Appetite is back 100% – doesn’t seem to be too picky of an eater. I’ve started him on a Royal Canin wet food that’s available at pet stores.
– He’s very trusting with everyone new that he’s met – great in the car, very calm
– Overall just a really sweet, but energetic guy
