Baby Yoda
* Baby Yoda found his forever home with a lovely person, and he’ll have other rats in his new home to be friends with! Yay!
Baby Yoda was surrendered to a Quebec shelter by his owners.
One Last Chance Rescue reached out to us for help, we were happy to welcome this little naked guy in. Thank you to them, and thank you to the organizers and drivers at Freedom Drivers Animal Rescue Transport for getting Baby Yoda to us safely.
One of Baby Yoda’s eyes is mostly closed and non-functioning. Hairless rats are prone to eye issues, due to their lack of eyelashes to keep out debris. At his vet visit, he was prescribed medication for the eye, but after two weeks there was no change. At his re-check appointment, his vet noted that he’s not in any pain, so the eye doesn’t need to be removed. His adopters will have to monitor the eye to be sure it stays free of debris, and to be sure it does not become irritated. The vet has happy with his overall heath, and noted that he had gained weight and was looking great. So, Baby Yoda is now ready to find his forever home!
Rats need company, so we’re asking that Baby Yoda’s forever home have other male (or spayed female) rats there for him to be friends with.
Here’s a note from Baby Yoda’s foster home:
“Baby Yoda is a very active little guy. He’s always moving and he loves to explore. He is friendly, but his new family will have to understand that he cannot see out of one eye, so he can be easily startled if he doesn’t know you’re there. Picking him up is best done by gently scooping him up with two hands, as opposed to grabbing him from above.
He is currently in a Critter Nation cage with fleece bedding. He uses strips of scrap fleece to build nests to keep warm, or he snuggles himself in his hammock with blankets. Keeping warm is very important when you’re naked! 🙂
He’s a sweet little guy and we hope he can find some rat companions, as well as human friends.”
Ladybird recommends Critter Nation cages. They are hands down the most spacious, and best quality enclosure for small animals on the market. They come in single and double sizes, and can be modified and customized to create enrichment and provide comfort. Their design and solid manufacturing almost entirely eliminates the possibility of accidental escape. Critter Nation cages are available (or can be ordered) at most local pet supply stores.
Can’t adopt but want to help?
Monetary donations are always needed, but if you’d like to donate something specifically for the rats in our care, donations of rat food, small pet blankets (used for cage lining), rat hammocks and fleece liners for Critter Nation cages are very much appreciated!
