Tuck
* Tuck has been adopted by his foster family! Yay! *
Tuck was found as a stray and brought to Hamilton Animal Services. The folks who found him mentioned that he had been attacked by a dog, but thankfully Tuck didn’t have any noticeable injuries, aside from a very cloudy eye. HAS staff sent Tuck to the vet and it turns out the eye issue is an old injury, and the eye would need to be removed. As this was beyond the shelter’s cost restrictions, they reached out to us for help.
We were happy to take Tuck in, and he did great for his eye removal and neuter surgery. Thanks to love and care from his foster mom, Tuck is now healed and ready to find his forever home!
Here’s a note from Tuck’s foster mom:
“Tuck doesn’t let his lack of an eye slow him down, a few days after surgery he bounced right back to his normal, playful self. Tuck is the perfect bunny companion. He is so little and brave and loves to be around people and in the thick of things. He has his own room but would prefer to be out exploring the house and around people. When he is put back in his room, he will actually scratch at the door to come back out. He is super confident and great with our toddler so he would probably do well in a family with children. He has never tried to bite and doesn’t seem to mind being held and pet for short periods of time. He is learning to use the litter box and will now poop and pee in one area, we have the litter box on a large low shoe tray and he prefers to poop on the tray. He has met our cat and he was actually pretty dominant and ended up chasing the cat and trying to mount him. He might do ok paired with a female but might be dominant with a male. He has developed a taste for baseboards and books so a fully bunny proofed area is needed.”

Rabbits need lots of space…
Our fostered rabbits are housed in x-pens or similar enclosures so they have lots of room to move around when they aren’t out for floor time. Some of our rabbits are free range in their foster home.
Commercially made pet store rabbit cages are far too small to allow rabbits to stretch out and move around with ease.
Here are some great websites and photos outlining alternative rabbit housing using x pens and similar enclosures.
