Boone
* Boone has been adopted by the most wonderful people! Congrats Boone! *
When Hamilton Animal Services sent us photos of an injured stray rabbit, we couldn’t say no.
Poor Boone had several serious injuries – puncture wounds (likely caused by an animal attack) a split lip, broken teeth, and other cuts and scrapes. The severity of the injuries indicated that he likely went through more than just being attacked by an animal, but we will never know for sure.
Boone went straight from the shelter to the vet for treatment, and he was transferred to an experienced bunny foster home the next day.
Boone has a long road of recovery ahead of him, but we’ll be with him every step of the way.
Welcome to Ladybird, Boone!
UPDATE – July 21/21
Boone’s xrays showed that he doesn’t have any broken bones, thank goodness! He ate like a champ while he was at the vet clinic, and was a trooper for his medications. Such a sweet bunny!
Boon has been transferred to his foster home, and he’s doing great there so far. He’s eating and drinking and pooping normally. All signs that he’s starting to heal. We’re hopeful he’ll continue to do well, and we’ll keep you all updated on how he’s doing.
Thank you for all the well wishes and donations for Boone. Please keep them coming!
UPDATE – August 9/21
Boone did great for his neuter surgery. Turns out, he didn’t need to have any repair done to his nose/lip because it healed so well! There’s a little blip where his nose has separated from his top lip, but our vets assure us that it causes him no pain. Boone can eat and drink normally, and after his neuter, he went right back to scarfing down his favourite veggies and treats. Once Boone is healed from his neuter, he’ll be ready to find his forever home.
UPDATE – August 30/21
Boone is all healed and ready to find his forever home!
Here’s a note from his foster family:
“Boone is the sweetest, gentlest bunny. He loves to be petted and have his head and back stroked. He’s not thrilled about being picked up, but he will tolerate it. He is free range in his own room, and is never caged. Shortly after he was neutered, Boone figured out the litter box, and he’s been fantastic about using it other than a few poops here and there. When he gets his morning and evening fruit/veggie snack, he’ll grab a piece and run with it to find a good spot to chow down. It’s very cute! His favourites are romaine lettuce, parsley and carrot. And he loves banana.
Boone isn’t very comfortable around cats, and he has not been introduced to dogs since coming here. It’s not known if his injuries were caused by a dog, so we don’t know if living in a home with dogs would be good for him.
He deserves a home where he will get lots of love and attention for the rest of his days.”
Please adopt Boone!

Our fostered rabbits are housed in x-pens or similar enclosures so they have lots of room to move around when they aren’t out for floor time. Some of our rabbits are free range in their foster home.
Commercially made pet store rabbit cages are far too small to allow rabbits to stretch out and move around with ease.
Here are some great websites and photos outlining alternative rabbit housing using x pens and similar enclosures.
