Miss Nibbles
* Miss Nibbles found her forever home with lovely people, and other rats! Yay! *
Miss Nibbles was rescued from a shelter in Quebec. Thank you One Last Chance and Freedom Drivers volunteers for getting this sweet rat to us safely. When she arrived at the shelter, Miss Nibbles’ entire body was covered in scabs and wounds. We weren’t given any history on Miss Nibbles, so we don’t know for sure what happened to her, but the wounds look similar to bite marks, so she may have been attacked by other rats she was living with. By the time Miss Nibbles made it to us, the wounds had mostly healed, but she was suffering from a respiratory infection.
Despite what she had been through, this little girl is so friendly! She comes right to you, and will willingly climb up for some pats and shoulder rides.
One of Miss Nibbles’ eyes is mostly closed and non-functioning, and the other eye was infected when she came to us. Pretty typical problem for hairless rats, as they are prone to eye issues due to their lack of eyelashes to keep out debris. At her vet visit, Miss Nibbles was prescribed eye medication and meds to help treat her respiratory infection. After a few medication changes and more vet appointments, our vet noted that Miss Nibbles’ eyes are as healed as they can be. Miss Nibbles is not in any pain, but her eyes will have to be monitored to be sure they stay free of debris. She is now on a daily, long-term eye lubricant to help her eyes from becoming irritated.
Ladybird recommends Critter Nation cages. They are hands down the most spacious, and best quality enclosure for small animals on the market. They come in single and double sizes, and can be modified and customized to create enrichment and provide comfort. Their design and solid manufacturing almost entirely eliminates the possibility of accidental escape. Critter Nation cages are available (or can be ordered) at most local pet supply stores.
Can’t adopt but want to help?
Monetary donations are always needed, but if you’d like to donate something specifically for the rats in our care, donations of rat food, small pet blankets (used for cage lining), rat hammocks and fleece liners for Critter Nation cages are very much appreciated!
