Abe
* Abe found his forever home with lovely people! Yay! *
Abe was found as a stray and brought to Hamilton Animal Services. When he arrived at HAS, Abe was extremely dehydrated and infested with fleas. He was very itchy, had patchy fur, and an issue with his eye. We know Abe belonged to someone at some point because he is already neutered. No owner came forward to claim him, despite being at the shelter long past his stray time.
When a foster home opened up, we were happy to get Abe out of the shelter and into a foster home. At his vet visit, Abe had blood tests, and he was given medication for his itchy skin and for his eye. We hoped the medication would do the trick and he wouldn’t have to have surgery on the eye, but alas, it did not. Abe had the eye surgery and he did great. He wasn’t happy about being in a cone afterward, but we’re glad he tolerated it because he healed up perfectly! .
Abe is now ready to find his forever home.
Here’s a note from his foster family:
“Abe is the sweetest lil’ man! He looked a little scraggly and rough around the edges when I first got him, but he was immediately purring up a storm. It took me days to get a decent picture of him because when he saw my hands he would just dive in immediately for head skritches. Head skritches are literally his favourite thing, he just demands them all the time.
He also likes to cuddle, and will definitely get up on you to make biscuits. If I lay flat on my stomach I managed to get him habituated to climbing up on my back and start kneading between my shoulders, so if you want your own personal masseuse, Abe is definitely your man.
He’s been wandering free around my house with my two female cats, and unfortunately they don’t get along. He has a bit of an antagonistic relationship with one of them, and pushes her around a bit by chasing, stalking, and blocking her. Not sure how he’d do in a household with other cats who might stand up for themselves a bit more, or other animals – but I don’t think he’d have any problems being the only animal around, he’s quite calm and chill.
If you’re ready and willing to provide lots of skritches – and I mean LOTS – then Abe would make a really excellent buddy for somebody!”
